A 2016 Special Edition Panerai timepiece, the Radiomir 1940 Minute Repeater Carillon Turbillon GMT Oro (PAM00600) draws inspiration from Panerai’s nautical roots, marking the passage of time similarly to a ship’s bell. A new hand-wound skeleton calibre fitted with a high-end minute repeater mechanism, the P.2005/MR Manufacture movement powers this unique watch from within its 49 mm case.

A push-piece at 8 o’clock activates the chime which features three hammers that strike an equal number of gongs fixed to the movement and the case. Having three hammers allows the carillon to play melodies, similar to a bell. The first gong indicated the hours with the last indicating the minutes. The second gong triple chimes to indicate the passage of ten minutes instead of the traditional fifteen. The repeater function can be activated for local time and for a second time zone indicated by the central arrow hand on the dial and the am/pm indicator on the counter at 3 o’clock.

Made to order for clients, this remarkable timepiece features a Panerai tourbillon regulator that is visible thanks to the skeleton movement. This provides better acoustic performance and allows the years of sophisticated work that went into creating it to be admired from the front to the back of the case. Officine Panerai has also made it possible to personalize this timepiece, allowing the customer to choose the strap, the hands and other special features, including changing the case from red gold shown above to another material.
