Tudor Black Bay 36 on Leather Strap Reference 79500
Current watchmaking trends favor case sizes upwards of 40mm, but larger watches aren’t suited for every wrist. Tudor introduced the Heritage Black Bay 36 at Baselworld 2016 to offer the sporty style of their popular Heritage line in a more universal size. This model combines historical and contemporary elements in its design and execution.
The 36mm stainless steel case features a satin finish with a polished bezel. It is equipped with a calibre 2824 self-winding mechanical movement manufactured in-house by Tudor. The power reserve is approximately 38 hours. A screw-down steel winding crown engraved with the Tudor rose seals the case to offer a depth rating of 150 meters.
The black dial is offset by luminescent hour markers and Tudor’s classic snowflake hour hand, introduced in 1969. This model comes on either a steel bracelet or an aged leather strap, shown above. It has a folding clasp with a safety catch as well. An additional camouflage fabric strap with buckle is also included with purchase.
The suggested retail price for the Heritage Black Bay 36 is 2,400 Swiss francs. For more information on this wristwatch model, visit Tudor’s official website at tudorwatch.com. Introduced at Baselworld 2016, the Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze is a diver’s watch made from an alloy of bronze and aluminum. The brushed case measures 43 mm in diameter and features a bronze graduated rotatable bezel with a matt brown anodized aluminum insert that matches the chocolate brown dial.
The crown of the Black Bay Bronze pays tribute to the ‘Big Crown’ seen on reference 7924 from 1958. A Tudor MT5601 self-winding mechanical movement sits inside the case, giving it a power reserve of 70 hours. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and is regulated by a variable inertia oscillator with a silicon balance spring. It has angular hands, the hour hand designed with Tudor’s characteristic snowflake shape.
The bronze of the case is brushed uniformly to allow for a homogenous patina to develop over time, depending on the wearer’s habits. It comes with an aged brown leather strap with a bronze buckle and an additional fabric strap designed to resemble straps made from the elastic rescue parachutes of the French Navy. It is waterproof to a depth of 200 meters and certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute.
This timepiece follows the current trends of the watchmaking industry in terms of size and materials. Tudor’s Black Bay collection is their most popular and the Bronze is its most unique configuration. It retails for 3,800 Swiss francs and is available at Tudor authorized dealers worldwide.
