The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 116710 with Ceramic Bezel is one of Rolex’s most notable timepieces.  The 115710 was introduced at Baselworld 2005.  The GMT-Master II is powered by an automatic caliber 3186 which was designed with 31 jewels, a Parachrom hairspring, and beats at a frequency of 28,800.

It has a 50-hour power reserve and is certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute.  This timepiece is singularly reliable and is highly resistant to shocks and temperature variations.

The Reference 116710 has a black rotatable ceramic bezel with a 24-hour notation, allowing for 2nd-time zone support.  The bezel works in conjunction with the large green 24-hour hand with a luminescent triangle tip to help track the 2nd time.  The black dial with white luminescent hour markers and hour, minute, and seconds hands gives the timepiece stellar visibility at night and day.

The GMT Master II has a highly visible date window with an anti-reflective magnifying cyclops lens at the 3 o’clock position over the sapphire crystal.  The timepiece comes with an Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock clasp in 904L steel. The classic look of this GMT Master II makes a perfect complement for any world traveler, airline pilot, performing artist, or traveling athlete.

Rolex has launched several versions of the GMT Master II, including an all-black bezel option, the “Batman” which has Black and Blue coloring on the bezel, the “Root Beer” which is both brown and black, and the “Kermit” and “Hulk” options which show the Black and Green combination.  Most recently Rolex launched the “Starbucks” version of green which aptly matches the world’s favorite coffee brewery logo scheme.

The two-tone bezel indicating day and night time is often copied because it provides such easy readability of the 2nd time zone. The large GMT hand with a triangular tip has a stem that matches the coloring of the timepiece combination you select (blue for the Batman, red for the Pepsi, Green for the Kermit, Hulk, and Starbucks). It indicates elegance and a minimalistic appeal of the second time zone. This is why the GMT II has become the tool watch for performers, athletes, pilots, and business travelers alike.

The hour markers and hands are extremely visible both day and night time. The cyclops lens over the date aperture at the 3 o’clock position makes the date window even more legible from multiple angles.

The New GMT Master II 126710 Replaces the Iconic 116710

Recently Rolex updated the GMT Master II with a completely new and more powerful caliber 3285.  Although the 116710 is still popular in after-market sales, the new It continues to have the independent rapid-setting of the 2nd time zone hour hand, instant date, and stop-seconds for precise time setting. However, it has a Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring oscillator and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers to be able to keep time even if you might be facing a bumpy ride at 30,000 feet.

However, the biggest improvement in the new reference 126710BLNR was the new Power Reserve, with 70 hours of charge to last almost 3 entire days without needing to be reset. Just like other Rolex timepieces, this new, highly efficient, and far more powerful caliber was added to its flagship products one at a time. The 2013 model GMT II Batman would have just over 40 hours of power reserve, by comparison.

A few other notable features include the ability to get the GMT Master II with the 5-piece Jubilee Oystersteel band. Like the Oyster band, it has the folding Oysterlock safety clasp with Easylink 5 mm comfort extension link. The Jubilee makes the watch appear more elegant and really pops when wearing it because of its ability to reflect light from so many angles. If you prefer, you can opt for the more subtle Oyster band which has 3 links.

This new model is a stunning addition to the GMT Master family. All Oystersteel GMT II is listed at $10,550 on the Rolex site but would go for as much as $24,000 after market.

The new colors, according to Rolex, represent day and night and blend perfectly with the black lacquer dial. No changes were made to the 40mm steel case and oyster steel bracelet. However, we have added the Blue Rubber B band above in order to show that the brilliance of the timepiece can be extended by adding the Classic Blue Rubber B band to this new timepiece.
