Who is Mario Lopez?
Mario Lopez Jr. was born on October 10, 1973, in San Diego, California to Elvira, a clerk for the local telephone company, and Mario Sr., who worked for the municipality of National City, CA, which is part of the greater San Diego Bay Area.
As a child, Lopez was active and energetic and excelled at a number of athletic activities, including tumbling, karate, wrestling, and dance. At the age of ten years old, he was spotted by a talent agent at a dance recital. He would appear on local commercials for several years before regularly appearing on television.

Lopez made his formal acting debut in 1984 on the ABC sitcom a.k.a. Pablo, which starred noted Latino comedian Paul Rodriguez, but was not well-received and only lasted for six episodes. He would make guest appearances on other programs throughout the 1980’s, but by the end of the decade, he would come to national prominence.
A.C. Slater and Saved By The Bell
Mario Lopez is most remembered by audiences today for playing the role of A.C. Slater on the sitcom Saved By The Bell, which originally aired from 1989-1993. He would continue that role on the spin-off show, Saved by the Bell: The College Years, which aired from 1993-1994.
Saved by the Bell is still popular with viewers today, and the original sitcom received a revival in 2020, with almost the entirety of the original cast, including Mario Lopez, reprising their parts from the original show.
Post Saved By The Bell Career
Lopez had made a number of film and television appearances since the conclusion of the original Saved By The Bell, and has divided his time between acting and making cameo appearances as himself in both films and television shows.
One of his more notable appearances was in the 1997 television movie Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story, where he would play the titular role of the legendary Olympic diver and noted LGBT activist.
He has also spent a significant amount of time on reality television as both a host and a contestant. In 2006, he would appear on season 3 of Dancing With the Stars, ultimately coming in second place along with his partner, Karina Smirnoff. He would later move into hosting, as he would go on to present the television programs America’s Best Dance Crew, The X-Factor, and Access Hollywood, which he presents along with Kit Hoover and Scott Evans.
