At The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York 2017, Patek Philippe introduced several new special edition watches to commemorate the occasion. Among them, the Reference 5531R-011, 5230G-010 and 5531R-010 shown in the photo above. The Reference 5531 features two of the watchmaker’s most significant complications: the minute repeater and the world time function.
A new self-winding caliber R 27 HU movement powers the rose gold 5531 with a new feature for the classic minute repeater. On this reference, the minute repeater always chimes at local time, not just your home time. This means that you can travel across the globe and it will function based on the local time indicated by the center hands. A patent has been filed for this innovation, which is made possible by the 462 parts of this Patek Philippe movement.
Its cloisonné dial depicts the Manhattan skyline to commemorate the host city of the exhibition. One option depicts New York by Night and the other New York by Day. Both are engraved with “Patek Philippe New York 2017.” The white gold Reference 5230 shown in the middle of the photo is powered by a self-winding caliber 240 HU movement. It too offers world time functionality. This limited edition of 300 pieces features a blue opaline 24-hour disk and a chamfered bezel.
The pusher at 10 o’clock automatically adjusts the time zone in a patented function of the watchmaker. There are a few more special edition watches that were introduced in conjunction with the Grand Exhibition that took place at Cipriani 42nd Street. With many mens and women’s models to choose from, each reinforces the tradition of fine watchmaking that has made Patek Philippe one of the most prestigious watchmakers in the world.
