What is the Deal with Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson and His Panerai Watch Collection?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among action stars, it\u2019s hard to make an argument that there is a bigger one than Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson. Whether we\u2019re talking about the man himself or the box office receipts from his films, he is an imposing presence wherever he goes and always knows how to make a memorable entrance when he steps into the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A large part of that has to do with his personal style, and an inimitable part of that is his trademark Panerai watch, which he is often seen photographed with, both on-set and off. A Brief History of the Panerai Watch<\/b><\/h2>\n

In order to really understand the Rock\u2019s deep love for Panerai watches, you have to take a bit of a dive into the history of the watch itself \u2013 and it\u2019s a surprisingly interesting one, believe it or not!<\/span><\/p>\n

The company was initially founded in 1836 in Florence, Italy. However, it really came to prominence in the 1930s, when it started making watches for the Italian Royal Navy, including its elite Special Forces squad, the Decima Flottiglia MAS. The brand didn\u2019t even make its watches available to the general public until 1993, by which they\u2019d long since perfected their tough and durable watches.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interestingly enough though, it was not the Rock, but another well-known American action movie star that brought the watch to prominence in the United States \u2013 Sylvester Stallone. He discovered the watch while working on the film Daylight in Florence, and fell in love with it soon afterward. Not to be outdone, his friend Arnold Schwarzenegger also got himself a Panerai watch, and from that point on, it became the go-to watch for action stars in Hollywood \u2013 even the Rock\u2019s on-screen nemesis (and off-screen friend) Jason Statham has one as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

In short, these watches were made to be hard to break and keep on ticking even after they take a licking. In the big-budget action epic \u201cSan Andreas,\u201d the Rock plays a helicopter pilot who has to save his family when the San Andreas Fault begins to come apart and causes a massive earthquake in California. How did he manage to do it? Well, having a helicopter helps, for starters, but we\u2019re pretty sure that the<\/span> straps<\/span><\/a> for his Panerai watches also played a small, but crucial, role in helping to save the day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wall Street Journal Cover – Panerai PAM 625<\/b><\/h2>\n

Another memorable moment where the Rock managed to show off his personal style, and let us see a different side of him at the same time, was when he did a photoshoot for the cover of the Wall Street Journal. The cover is notable for showing a softer image of him, as he looks rather placid while playing with a group of baby chicks in front of him and smiling.<\/span><\/p>\n
