Russell Crowe and His Rolex Submariner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Russell Crowe and his Rolex Submariner have become quite a pairing.\u00a0 Both have achieved the pinnacle of excellence at their respective trades.\u00a0 Crowe is a multitalented New Zealander who has excelled at acting, filmmaking and as a musician.<\/p>\n

Crowe is widely known for his role as Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in the Roman historical film Gladiator (2000).\u00a0 He won the prized Academy Award for Best Leading Actor for that performance.<\/p>\n

Crowe steals the stage with nearly anything he performs even though his roles are quite varied.\u00a0 He appeared in A Beautiful Mind (2001) where he plays a brilliant and disturbed Nobel Prize American mathematician.\u00a0 He plays British ship captain in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003).\u00a0 He played a boxer in Cinderella Man (2005).\u00a0 He appeared in Victor Hugo’s musical Les Miserables (2013) and played Superman’s father Jor-El in Man of Steel in the same year.\u00a0 \u00a0A year later he took on the role of Noah in the Biblical drama.<\/p>\n

In 2014 Russell Crowe released his first picture as a director in The Water Diviner.\u00a0 Although he is primarily recognized for his acting, from the 1980’s through present times Crowe has been part of multiple music groups as the lead singer.<\/p>\n

Russell Crowe and His Rolex Submariner<\/h2>\n

Russell Crowe has long been a fan of fine timepieces.\u00a0 Although he recently unloaded his Panerai collection, he still covets his Rolex Submariner.\u00a0 The Submariner is one of the most sought after Rolex timepieces and has has extremely popular since the James Bond character Sean Connery started wearing it in the Bond films of the 1960\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Rolex has long been known for its waterproof Oyster case, made popular in the 1920\u2019s and proven waterproof in the Cross English Channel Challenge by English swimmer Mercedes Gleitze. Rolex combined both a patented system for screwed down the bezel, case-back and purchasing the rights to the patent by Paul Perregaux and Georges Peret in 1925 which protected their screw-down crown design. This combination created the first waterproof and dustproof timepiece and started Rolex down the path of creating exceptional watches that were not only good for swimming, but also for diving.<\/p>\n

As diving started to become a sport, Rolex took up the challenge. In 1954 they introduced two Submariner models at the Basel Watch Fair. The timepiece has undergone countless improvements over the years. The caliber has gone through multiple changes and two versions of the Submariner emerged \u2013 one with the date window with a cyclops lens and one without the date window.<\/p>\n

The early Submariners were all made from steel, but have since been made with multiple metals including yellow gold, rolesor (two-tone with yellow gold and steel) and even white gold. Crowe seems to favor the Oystersteel model with black dial, and black bezel with the date window. This beautiful timepiece is listed for $9150 on the Rolex site but currently sells for much more than that at retail due to the increased demand for Rolex timepieces.<\/p>\n

The current\u00a0Submariner Date<\/a> comes with a 41mm case, and a new 3235 automatic caliber with new 70 hour power reserve. This new caliber brings the Submariner lineup to the latest and enhanced technology.\u00a0 For many years, the Submariner lagged behind other Rolex timepieces who received the new caliber treatment well before this iconic brand.\u00a0 This new caliber is built with 31 jewels and sports a Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers.
