The IWC Big Pilot is a precision timepiece with an automatic system with a 168 hour power reserve. The rotor winds in both directions with a Pellaton winding system. The sapphire glass is built with a grade 9 hardness on the Mohs scale. This protects the timepiece at low and high air pressure experienced at different altitudes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timepiece has a 7 day power reserve display at the 3 o’clock position, a date window at 6 o’clock and a hour, minute and second hand. The screw-in crown has 4 positions – screwed in position, winding position, date position, and time setting position. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Big Pilot supports 200 feet of water resistance. It is powered by a calibre 52110 which is entirely IWC manufactured in house. The 52110 beats at a frequency of 28800 vph and has 31 jewels and 257 components. The seconds can be hacked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Big Pilot reference IW501001 has a 46.2 mm diameter and has a 15.5 mm height. The dial is black and it has a Junkers JU-52 plane engraved on the case back. There is a soft-iron inner case that protects the movement against magnetic fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The timepiece has a black calfskin strap which matches the black dial. It has a 22 mm lug. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Top Gun is a gorgeous timepiece with an extensive array of features. It has 4 mini dials on the dial face. The top dial features the moon phase display at 12 o’clock which shows a double phase for both the northern and southern hemispheres. This needs adjusting only once in 577 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the 9 o’clock position there is an outer ring with a weekly calendar and a small seconds ring inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between the 8 and 7 o’clock position there is a unique year aperture. At 6 o’clock is a month calendar. The 3 o’clock dial has an inner dial with a power reserve indicator and the outer dial has the days of the month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
