As a tribute to this Hollywood legend, let\u2019s take a few moments to examine the life and career of Clint Eastwood in more detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is Clint Eastwood?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Clint Eastwood Jr. was born on May 31st<\/sup>, 1930 in San Francisco, California to Ruth and Clint Eastwood, Sr. The family was upper middle class and settled in Piedmont, California, where Clint would spend his formative years. He attended Piedmont High School, but was expelled after a variety of disruptive antics, including writing an obscene suggestion to a school official on the athletic field scoreboard and for burning an effigy on the school lawn. He later transferred to Oakland Technical High School, but it is unclear if he graduated or not from this institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief stint in the military and working a variety of odd jobs, one of Eastwood\u2019s friends from the military introduced him to Irving Glassburg, who was impressed with Eastwood\u2019s stature but, after seeing him audition, told him to take acting lessons if he was serious about a career in show business. He would later go on to several small film parts, but in 1958, Eastwood would be cast as Rowdy Yates in Rawhide, a part that he would play until 1965.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though the part would bring him national prominence, Eastwood had reservations about the character, as he felt that he was too old to play someone as young and cloddish as Rowdy Yates.  In Eastwood\u2019s own words, \u201cIn Rawhide I did get awfully tired of playing the conventional white hat. The hero who kisses old ladies and dogs and was kind to everybody. I decided it was time to be an antihero.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following through on this idea would be a wise career move, as it would lead him to international prominence just a few years later. In 1964, Eastwood received the opportunity to go to Italy to star in a Spaghetti Western entitled A Fistful of Dollars, in which he would star as the antihero known as The Man with No Name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This role would bring Eastwood global fame and turn him into a movie star, which resulted in him going on to reprise it two more times in For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, the latter of which is widely considered to be a masterpiece of the Western genre by film critics and audiences alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He would spend the rest of the 1960\u2019s playing variations on this part in several different Westerns, and in 1971, he would portray the role that many people would say is still his most iconic: inspector Harry Callahan, better known as \u201cDirty Harry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eastwood has remained active as a prolific actor and director, often producing his films through his production company, Malpaso Productions<\/a>. And even at the age of 90, Eastwood shows no signs of slowing down, as his latest film, Cry Macho, will debut in 2021 on HBO Max as well as be released theatrically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
