What is the History of the Mark 18 Watches?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Mark 18 is one of the newest entries in IWC\u2019s long-running series of Pilot\u2019s Watches. These watches have a long and storied history and are easily one of IWC\u2019s most recognizable product lines, even among collectors who are not full-out watch connoisseurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These watches were initially crafted to serve the needs of commercial pilots, at a time when the idea of aviation being a commercial enterprise was still a very new one. As a result, this timepiece has a number of features on it that are not necessarily common on other luxury timepieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Are The Technical Specifications of the IWC Mark 18 Pilot\u2019s Watches?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Mark 18 measures 40 mm in diameter and 11 mm in height, which makes its dimensions very standard in terms of luxury timepieces. It is powered by the 35111 Caliber, which is both automatic and self-winding. It has a power reserve of 42 hours and vibrates at a frequency of 28800.0 vph.  It is comprised of 163 components and 25 jewels, which is notable because the average luxury timepiece contains about 12 jewels, on average. The additional jewels speak to the complexity of the movement contained therein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the most interesting technical aspect, by far, of this timepiece is the number of features it has that are related to aviation.  It has a soft-iron inner case, which has been specially designed for protection against magnetic fields, which is important while flying a plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The glass on the watch has also been specially reinforced against displacement by any sudden drops in air pressure. Finally, the sapphire glass has an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The timepiece is also water-resistant for up to 6 bars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Does the Mark 18 Rate In Terms of Its Design?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In terms of its design, the IWC Mark 18 is very much inspired by the look of the previous watches in this line. As a result, it has a very vintage feel to it, up to and including its black luminescent dial, which has highly legible numbers on it. It is clear that this dial was designed to be visible in less than ideal conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
