Russell Wilson was born on November 29, 1988, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His father, Harrison, is a lawyer, and his mother, Tammy, is a nurse. He has an older brother, Harry, with whom he co-hosts the podcast \u201cThink Like a Champion.\u201d Wilson began showing an interest in football at the age of four, and he would go on to play his first competitive game during sixth grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russell Wilson\u2019s Early Athletic Career<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wilson was a talented high school football player, twice being named the \u201cPlayer of the Year\u201d in his local hometown newspaper, the Richmond-Times Dispatch<\/em>. He would then go on to redshirt at NC State, where he would eventually be named the runner-up for ACC Football Player of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mainstream Success in the NFL<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wilson would formally join the NFL in 2012, after being drafted 75th<\/sup> in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks. Despite his prodigious talent, he was drafted later in the drafting process, largely because of Wilson’s height, according to Jon Gruden. During the draft, Gruden stated that “The only issue with Russell Wilson is his height. That might be why he’s not picked in the first couple of rounds.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, selecting Wilson as their quarterback would prove one of the most prudent decisions in that organization\u2019s history. In his first year with the team, he would manage to tie Peyton Manning\u2019s record for most passing touchdowns in a rookie season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilson then managed to, in only his second year of professional play in the league, lead his team to a Super Bowl victory, the first in that franchise\u2019s history. He is also the second African-American quarterback, after Doug Williams, to win a Super Bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilson would go on to play with the Seattle Seahawks for 11 seasons, finally leaving the team in 2021 to join the Denver Broncos for their 2022 season. And although they did not make it to the Super Bowl, it is unlikely that Wilson will be leaving professional football anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September of 2021, Trevor Moawad, who was one of Wilson\u2019s trainers and a man he called his \u201cbest friend,\u201d passed away from cancer at the age of 48. Moawad was also a co-host on Wilson\u2019s podcast, and it remains to see if any new episodes of \u201cThink Like a Champion\u201d will be produced in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
