Introduced by Rolex in 1971, the Explorer II added additional utility to the Explorer I model. Featuring a fixed 24-hour bezel and 24-hour hand, this timepiece allows the wearer to tell the time in two places on one watch. It also features a date aperture at 3 o’clock which also differentiates it from Explorer I. The main similarity between Explorer I and II is their superior legibility. Their dials are clean and clear with large luminescent hour markers.<\/p>\n

Equipped with a Calibre 3187 movement manufactured in-house by Rolex, the Explorer II features a 42 mm case and a 48-hour power reserve. Passing their Superlative Chronometer Certification, this timepiece has a precision of -2\/+2 seconds per day. The Oyster case and Oyster bracelet are made from Rolex’s 904L stainless steel and the Oysterlock clasp features a 5 mm Easylink extension link for additional comfort.<\/p>\n

The Explorer II model is available with a black dial or with a white lacquered dial like the one shown in the photo above. The configuration with the white dial is known as the ‘Polar’ Explorer by Rolex enthusiasts. This dial is particularly interesting as most of the professional Rolex models are only available with black, blue or green dials depending on the model.<\/p>\n

Another reason this model has gained popularity is the 42 mm case size. Larger than a GMT-Master II but smaller than the Deepsea, the Explorer II has had a 42 mm case since 2011. This case size offers a compromise between the largest of Rolex cases and the more standard 40 mm cases.<\/p>\n
