Zac Efron was born on October 18th<\/sup>, 1987 in San Luis Obispo, California. His father, David, is an electrical engineer at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. His mother, Starla, also works at the plant as an administrative assistant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Efron began showing an interest in acting and singing as a child. He would appear in a number of plays in his youth, including Gypsy, Little Shop of Horrors, Peter Pan<\/em>, and The Music Man. <\/em>His drama teacher noticed Efron\u2019s acting talent and recommended him to an agent, leading him to get signed at Creative Artists Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zac Efron\u2019s Early Show Business Career<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Efron began his film acting career with small guest roles on several TV shows, including Firefly, ER,<\/em> and The Guardian. <\/em>He would also appear in both seasons of the WB show Summerland<\/em>, the second season of which saw him promoted to be a lead character on the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mainstream Success as an Actor<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

2006 would prove to be a breakout year for the young actor, as he would appear as the character of Troy Bolton in Disney\u2019s High School Musical<\/em>. The role would turn him into something of an overnight sensation and instantly raise his profile, especially among teenagers and younger audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He would go on to reprise the role two more times, with his last appearance in the series being High School Musical 3: Senior Year<\/em> in 2008. Efron quickly realized that he would be typecast if he continued to appear in these kinds of roles, so he ventured out to find projects that would allow him to showcase his range as an actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
