The Rolex Milgauss<\/a> 116400V has a long history of excellence.\u00a0 Rolex introduced the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss with the reference 6451 all the way back in 1956.\u00a0 Rolex understood that they had an issue.\u00a0 Scientists that worked around electromagnetic fields would find their timekeeping disrupted.\u00a0 Rolex worked to create a timepiece that would resist magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss.<\/p>\n

This is in fact where the name Milgauss comes from.\u00a0 Mille is the French word for thousand, and Gauss is the measurement used to test electromagnetic interference.\u00a0 This presented Rolex with the perfect name Mille – Gauss or Milgauss for short.<\/p>\n

They worked with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to create a timepiece that would be resistant to magnetic waves.\u00a0 This became a theme with other Rolex timepieces as Rolex adopted its advances to make all of its timepieces less susceptible to interference.<\/p>\n

Just as Rolex adopted materials to prevent shock and improve waterproofness in early Explorer and Submariner timepieces, the advances made by the Milgauss helped all Rolex timepieces.<\/p>\n

The Milgauss 6451 was soon replaced by a modified 1019 which was produced in the 1960s – 1980’s.\u00a0 In 1988 Roles suddenly discontinued the Milgauss.\u00a0 It would take nearly 20 years before\u00a0 Rolex would start manufacturing this fine timepiece again.\u00a0 In 2007 Rolex resumed its production on the new Rolex Milgauss line.<\/p>\n

Rolex Milgauss 116400V<\/h2>\n

The Rolex Milgauss 116400V is powered by an automatic 3131 movement and has a green sapphire crystal.\u00a0 The green coloring of the crystal can be seen on the edges of the crystal as it connects to the polished steel bezel.<\/p>\n

The 3131 is a perpetual self-winding movement with a 48-hour power reserve.\u00a0 It has a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring oscillator at its core – providing excellent resistance to magnetic interference.<\/p>\n

The coloring of the Milgauss is unique among Rolex timepieces.\u00a0 The black dial is adorned with hour markers – mostly white except for the orange markers at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.\u00a0 The second notation is marked around the edge of the dial in orange.<\/p>\n

The hour and minute hands are a unique extension of the luminescent hour markers – utilizing a similar rectangular shape as opposed to the typical sword shape of most Rolex hour and minute hands.\u00a0 Even more surprising is the orange lightning bolt for the second hand.<\/p>\n

Combined with the complimentary green glow of the Glace Verte sapphire crystal the orange-green combination provides a unique and sporty look.<\/p>\n

The 40 mm case is smaller than some Rolex timepieces but substantial enough to fit nearly any wrist.\u00a0 The most powerful feature of the Milgauss is the soft-iron faraday cage that helps it resist up to 1,000 gauss.\u00a0 The Milgauss was designed to meet the demands of the scientific community whose timepieces would often be affected negatively by magnetic interference.<\/p>\n

It became the standard timepiece for the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva and many other scientific institutions. The Milgauss is more than just a tool.\u00a0 It is an exceptional example of Rolex timeless dedication to precision and the art of keeping accurate time under any circumstances.<\/p>\n

The Milgauss is also protected by Rolex’s Twinlock double waterproofness system.\u00a0 It supports a depth of 330 feet.<\/p>\n
