Pierce Brosnan is one of the most widely recognized Irish actors who dominated both television and film.  He was ranked 15th on The Irish Times’ list of greatest Irish actors, and he has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  He became an iconic actor with the television show Remington Steele (1982-1987) where he appeared as a thief and con man, turned private investigator.  He plays opposite the beautiful Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) who he shares tremendous on-screen chemistry and a romantic relationship.

Pierce Brosnan was rumored to become the next James Bond after Roger Moore, but that role went to Timothy Dalton in the late 1980’s.  However, Brosnan took over the role and became the 5th James Bond actor to play the iconic role in GoldenEye (1995).  The franchize slumped under Dalton, but Brosnan almost single-handedly doubled the box-office success of Dalton in his first film as Bond.

He went on to make 3 more Bond films which were all successful including Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002).  He was the last Actor to play Bond before Daniel Craig took over the role in 2006.

It is very easy to let the James Bond role overshadow all of the other projects Brosnan has done.  As an actor playing Bond can both be a blessing and a curse since it could be difficult to ever be seen in another role after Bond.  However, Brosnan is much like Sean Connery in the ability to break out of the Bond shadow.

Before and even during his stint as Bond, he played in the movies The Fourth Protocol (1987), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Dante’s Peak (1997) and The Thomas Crown Affair (1999).

However, more importantly, after he hung up his license to kill, Brosnan appeared in the hit musical Mamma Mia! (2008) and its sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018).  He also appeared in Ghost Writer (2010), November Man (2014) and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010).

Brosnan has worked steadily for the past 40 years, often with many pictures, made for TV movies, voice acting positions, and even as a film producer all achieved in a single year.

He is also an accomplished environmentalist and activist.  He has been tied to Greanpeace to end nuclear testing.  He has been tied to Unite against Aids, and breast cancer fundraisers.

Brosnan is also an artist.  He is a painter and often uses his art to help raise money for his many charities.

Pierce Brosnan and his Panerai Luminor

Panerai watches are loved by many Hollywood stars. In the pictures above, Pierce Brosnan is wearing a Panerai Luminor with the Panerai steel bracelet.  It is an older model that looks much like the PAM02392.

There are slight differences.  The small seconds in the 2392 at 9 o’clock position has a blue hand on the new version as opposed to the standard steel. Also, the date aperture has a cyclops lens to improve visibility of the date window at the 3 o’clock position in Pierce Prosnan’s Panerai Luminor.

However, the same Panerai functions remain.  It is powered by an in-house movement designed by Panerai, the P.9010 calibre.  It has 31 jewels, 200 components, and has a 3 day power reserve.  The calibre P.9010 beats at 28,800 alternations per hour and contains a Glucydur® balance, and an Incabloc® anti-shock device.

The beauty of the PAM02392 is that it is part of the long Panerai history and is a well made timepiece with hints of its ties to both Rolex and to the Italian Navy Seals.  The case itself is much like the early Rolex cases that Rolex manufactured for Panerai during the 1940’s.  However, the crown locking mechanism is the part that Panerai brought to the table, which not only protects the crown from accidental damage, but also improves its waterproofness ability.

Panerai also was one of the first watchmakers to put luminescent paint on their hour markers.  In this timepiece there are two layers.  The green luminescent layer resides underneath the black dial giving the timepiece a layered effect and great visibility in both day and night time.

The 42″ case is made from 316L brushed steel.  Although the PAM02392 comes with a black leather strap, Brosnan prefers the Panerai steel band.  Although it is not a dive watch, it does support 100 meters of waterproofness depth and is ready for most activities.
