The Black Bay family of watches are the most popular in Tudor’s Heritage line. They combine a classic aesthetic with innovations of modern-day watchmaking. The 41 mm Heritage Black Bay S&G introduced at Baselworld 2017 features characteristics that people have grown to love about the Black Bay models with new elements that make it stand out on its own.
2017 Tudor Heritage Black Bay
The most obvious update in this configuration is the combination of yellow gold and steel used for the case and bracelet. The winding crown, bezel and center links of this model use yellow gold to create the first two-tone Black Bay model. The hands and hour markers also use yellow gold in combination with the powerful luminescence Tudor models are known for. The winding crown is engraved with the Tudor rose, which is lacquered in black to match the bezel and dial.
Another notable addition to this model is a date function, visible through an aperture at 3 o’clock. This is a first for the watches in the Black Bay family, adding a useful complication to the classic diver’s watch. The two-tone bracelet incorporates a riveted bracelet with stepped construction that is characteristic of models introduced by the brand in the 1950s. It is also available on an aged leather strap, both options equipped with a folding clasp and safety catch.
The Black Bay S&G is fitted with a Manufacture Calibre MT5612 self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve of 70 hours. It features 26 jewels with a total diameter of 31.8 mm and a thickness of 6.5 mm. This Swiss Chronometer oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, or 4 Hz. The balance spring is made from silicon, a non-magnetic material that maintains the frequency of the timepiece. It is waterproof to a depth of 200 meters, or 600 feet.

Although this watch may not be available today, Tudor has an even more impressive Chrono version of this watch that has the same coloring and aesthetic, plus the Datona-like feel to it.
