Rubber B has become well-known as a highly respected crafter of custom rubber watch bands for timepieces from some of the most respected watchmakers in the field, including such brands as Patek Philippe, IWC, and Breitling. Rubber B has a variety of straps in different colors and styles in our product portfolio that are appropriate for both business/formal wear and more casual situations as well. It’s actually ideal that we mention Breitling at the outset, because this article is going to focus on one of their most well-known watches – the Navitimer B01 Chronograph.
Breitling is well-known among the horological community for its precision chronographs, which they have been manufacturing since 1884 in Switzerland. The company came to prominence by manufacturing chronographs specifically for aviators, and since that time, their chronographs have come to be known around the world as a standard-bearer of excellent timekeeping.
Arguably, the Breitling Navitimer is the company’s most well-known timepiece – for comparison, it is analogous to Tudor’s Black Bay or Rolex’s Submariner, and as such, we thought it would be beneficial to look at this piece a little more closely. We will begin by focusing on the watch’s technical specifications, then move onto its design aesthetic, and then finally conclude by suggesting some replacement watch straps for the bracelet, should you find yourself in need of them.
What Are the Technical Specifications of the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph?
If you are considering purchasing a chronograph, a Breitling watch is an excellent place to start, due to the company’s long history of specializing in making exactly these kinds of watches.
The Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph measures 43 mm and is encased in stainless steel. It is 14.4 mm thick and measures 49.1 mm from lug to lug. The watch is a bit larger than average luxury timepieces, and as such, it wears better on wrists that are either average-sized or, ideally, a little larger than average.
The Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph uses Breitling’s B01 movement, which it has been manufacturing in-house since 1954. It also has a logarithmic scale flight calculator bezel, no doubt owing to this watch’s origins as an aviator’s timepiece. It has a power reserve of up to 70 hours and a water resistance of 3 bars.
The bracelet has an easy-to-use clamshell clasp and is comprised of elegant, crosscut links. It is worth noting that, although the bracelet looks similar to the Pilot watch that Breitling also offers, this bracelet is actually entirely unique to the Navitimer B01 Chronograph and cannot be found anywhere else.
This timepiece retails, on average, for about $7,500, but its prices do vary significantly depending on where you purchase it from. As always, be certain to take care that you are only purchasing your timepieces from reputable jewelers and that all of the necessary providence is available upon your request.
How Does the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph Fare in Terms of Its Design?
Breitling watches occupy a very unique niche in terms of their design in the horological world. They straddle a line between tool watch and fine timepiece, and the overall design of the watch could best be described, in a few words, as “polished meets very practical.”
The dial is mostly comprised of black and white coloring, with the only splashes of color being the red “60” at the top of the dial and the red seconds’ hand of the watch. It is interesting to note that, unlike a lot of other chronographs, the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph has three sub-dials on its face instead of the more standard two.
In our opinion, this watch is a little too formal for a relaxed day at the beach, but it would certainly pair well with a nice dress jacket and slacks. In short, this is a fantastic-looking watch, but it is also clear that opulence is not Breitling’s primary focus when it comes to their timepieces.
What Are Some Options For Replacing the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph’s Bracelet?
Rubber B offers some excellent options in terms of custom rubber watch straps for the Breitling Navitimer B01 Chronograph. We offer three different variations of this strap in our SwimSkin® line, including our Alligator strap, which is still made completely from Swiss vulcanized rubber. We also offer straps in our Ballistic style as well, and we are proud to offer a brand-new Twill option as well.
