Who Is Erling Haaland?

Erling Haaland was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England on July 21, 2000. Despite having been born in England, he is of Norwegian origin. He was born in England because his father, Alfie, was playing in the Premier League for Leeds United at the time.

Erling Haaland’s Early Athletic Career

Haaland showed an early interest in, and aptitude for, various athletics. He started playing club soccer in his hometown at 5 in their youth division. In addition to soccer, he was also involved in handball, track and field, and golf. When he was five, he achieved a world record in his age group for a standing long jump of 1.63 meters in 2006.

Byrne and Mainstream Success

At age fifteen, he made his professional debut on the reserve team of Byrne, his parent’s hometown. He would receive his first start on the team just a few months before his 16^th birthday.

In February of 2017, Molde, a competing club, announced that they had signed the then sixteen-year-old Haaland to a new contract. In August 2017, he scored his first Premier League goal. He would go on to have a relatively successful season with the team, even though it would only last for a year.

After bouncing around from team to team, it was announced that Haaland would sign with Red Bull Salzburg for a five-year contract in 2019. However, the team would ultimately prove to be less than impressed with his work for them. In a move that was surprising to many soccer fans, they would terminate his contract after only a year.

He would spend two years with Borussia Dortmund from 2020 to 2022. The young player would finally begin to deliver on the promise many had seen in his youth, scoring 31 goals in each of the two seasons he played with the team. He would then move to Manchester City in 2022, where he would break the scoring record for most goals scored by a player in a single season.
