The IWC Pilot Mark XVIII Top Gun Miramar IW324702 is an incredible achievement in the long history of IWC watches. International Watch Company (now IWC Schaffhausen with parent IWC International Watch Co. AG) was founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones in Schaffhausen Switzerland. The IWC Pilot Mark XVIII Top Gun Miramar IW324702 has a ceramic case with a diameter of 41mm. This is smaller than some of the other aviators including the Chrono and the Big Pilot’s timepieces from IWC. Many of the IWC timepieces have 43, 44 and larger cases. The IWC will look fine on both male and female aviators as it fits neatly in at 41mm.

The unique coloring on the face of this timepiece is bound to turn some heads. It isn’t just the typical black. In fact it has a khaki military feel to it. The beige numbering is set to the military numbering on the outer band with standard time numbering on the inner band.

With its green calfskin band it definitely has a military feel to it. The combination makes it an ideal accessory for both men and women. The strap uses a standard tang buckle with a 20mm lug width.

It has a date window at the 3 o’clock position. All of the numerals and hands have luminescent paint that will make the timepiece exceptionally visible both in day and in night time.

The case features a soft iron inner case which helps it protect against magnetic fields. The Sapphire glass is both convex and contains antireflective coating on both sides. The glass is further secured against displacement due to a drop in air pressure – a key feature for aviators that will be flying at high speeds and at high altitudes.

The timepiece supports a waterproof depth of 200 feet. The anthracite dial is viewable well in both day and nighttime hours.

The in-house movement by IWC is a calibre 30110 which is an automatic self-winding mechanism built with 163 components and 21 jewels. It beats at a frequency of 28800 vph and has a 42 hour power reserve. The screw-down crown can also create a central hacking seconds when used for precise time setting.

This timepiece was produced in 2016 and is not currently available. However, if you would like to look at a similar numerical layout and add the Chronograph feature check out the IW389008 Pilot’s watch chronograph edition “Blue Angels”. Clearly a stunning look which is blue rather than khaki, it is well worth the visit as it is packed with many more features than the simplified Top Gun version.
