For those who regularly watch basketball, the name Jimmy Butler is all too familiar. The now veteran basketball player began his career almost 15 years ago, and since that time, has become one of the league’s most interesting and beloved personalities.

Much like several of his other co-workers, Butler is both a gifted athlete and a collector of luxury watches. As a company based in Miami, Rubber B thought it would only be appropriate to more closely examine the life, career, and watch collection of a player from our own Miami Heat. 

Who is Jimmy Butler? 

Jimmy Butler was born on September 14^th, 1989 in Houston, Texas. His father abandoned the family when Jimmy was only an infant, leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. By the time he was 13, his mother had kicked him out of the house, stating that “I don’t like the look of you – you gotta go.” Amazingly, Butler has said that despite that contentious upbringing, he maintains a close relationship with his family today.

Jimmy Butler’s Early Athletic Career

Butler began playing sports in high school and was noticed by Jordan Leslie, who would go on to play as a wide receiver in the NFL. Leslie was a freshman and Butler a senior, but Leslie still challenged him to a three-point shooting contest. The two became close friends, and Butler would live with Leslie and his family for his senior year of high school.

Upon graduation from high school, he attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. He would eventually receive an athletic scholarship to Marquette, which led to him having the opportunity to be selected for the NBA Draft in 2011.

NBA Draft and Mainstream Success

Butler would be drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2011. He has spent the majority of his professional career thus far playing with that team. Though his first couple of years with the team would prove to be rocky, he would go on to win the 2014-2015 Most Improved Player Award. He would be the first player in the team’s history ever to receive this honor.

In 2017, in a move that was somewhat surprising to many, Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, the culture of the team ended up not being a good fit for Butler. He requested a trade from the team and was sent to Philadelphia in 2018.

He would help take the 76ers to the playoffs in the 2018-2019 NBA season, but unfortunately, the team was knocked out in the second round by the Toronto Raptors. The following year, he would be traded again, this time to the Miami Heat.

Since 2019, Butler has been a proud member of the Heat’s roster. He would achieve major milestones with the team, such as seeing his first Finals appearance. In 2022, he became the first player in Heat history to put up back-to-back 40-point playoff games.
