Rubber B has become well-known as a highly respected crafter of custom rubber watch bands for timepieces from some of the most respected watchmakers in the field, including such brands as Patek Philippe, IWC, and Breitling. Rubber B has a variety of straps in different colors and styles in our product portfolio that are appropriate for both business/formal wear and more casual situations as well. However, this article will focus on a new Lance Armstrong watch crafted by Artisans De Geneve, as well as the legendary cyclist’s personal watch collection.
There are few figures within the world of professional sports, and especially within the realm of professional cycling, who are as well-known, well-decorated, or as controversial as Lance Armstrong. He won seven consecutive Tour De France titles from 1999 to 2005, only to later be stripped of them when a formal investigation revealed that he had been using performance-enhancing drugs.
However, Armstrong has successfully rehabilitated his career, and today owns a number of businesses in downtown Austin, TX, as well as appearing in a documentary about his life for ESPN entitled “Lance.” In order to celebrate the release of this new Lance Armstrong watch and the accomplishments of the vaunted cyclist himself, we thought it would be a good idea to take a closer look at the life, and the watch collection, of Lance Armstrong.
Who is Lance Armstrong?
Lance Armstrong was born as Lance Edward Gunderson on September 18, 1971, in Richardson, Texas to Linda, a secretary, and Eddie, a route manager for The Dallas Morning News who passed away in 2012. His parents would divorce just two years later, and his mother would remarry to Terry Keith Armstrong, a wholesale salesman who would adopt Lance that same year.
Armstrong would not initially begin his career as a cyclist, but in a completely different realm – competitive swimming. At the age of 12, he would begin swimming at the City of Plano Swim Club and would be ranked fourth in the 1,500-meter freestyle. At the age of 13, he would see a poster for the Iron Kids Triathlon, which he would go on to win. His success as a triathlete would cause him to focus solely on triathlons and leave swimming behind entirely.
Early Success in Cycling
Armstrong was something of a prodigy in the cycling world, as he had become a professional triathlete at only 16 years old. At the ages of 18 and 19, he would win two consecutive national sprint course triathlon championships, which would offer a glimpse of what was to come for the prodigiously talented young athlete.
In 1992, Armstrong would become a full-time professional cyclist after accepting an invitation to join the Motorola Cycling Team, which was the successor of the 7-11 Team. The following year, he would go on to win 10 one-day events, but he would really begin to receive international recognition after winning the World Road Race Championship, which had been held in Norway that year.
Armstrong would go on to become one of the world’s most decorated cyclists after this point, winning multiple races around the world throughout the 1990’s and overcoming a diagnosis of testicular cancer in 1996. He would return to cycling in 1998 and then retire once in 2005 before retiring again in 2011.
Where is Lance Armstrong Now?
After his retirement from professional athletics, Lance Armstrong has since diversified into a number of different business opportunities. He owns a coffee shop called the Juan Pelota Café and a bike shop in the same building called Mellow Johnny’s, which is a reference to a nickname he received in his cycling days.
He also hosts two podcasts and has started several other companies as well. Despite his retirement from professional cycling, it is highly unlikely that we have seen the last of Lance Armstrong.
What Kinds of Watches are in Lance Armstrong’s Watch Collection?
Armstrong has built up an interesting and varied collection of luxury timepieces over the years. He seems to primarily favor Rolex watches, and has been well-known for wearing both the Rolex GMT Master and the Rolex Daytona, the latter of which is very fitting for what you would think of as a “Lance Armstrong watch.”
He has also been seen wearing several Panerai timepieces as well, including two different versions of the Panerai Luminor – the Panerai Luminor Marina and the Panerai Luminor GMT.
It is highly likely that he owns several other luxury timepieces, but there are the ones that he has been photographed wearing most frequently.
