Since the early 2000’s, Ludacris has been one of the most prominent members of a group of rappers from the Southern United States, particularly Georgia, that have gained national prominence. He managed to parlay a successful career as a rapper into an acting career, including being a part of the long-running “Fast and the Furious” film franchise.
In the third entry of our four-part series, Rubber B will take a closer look at the life and career of the man who, while known for his various incredible talents, including music production and acting, has provided much of the comic relief for the “Fast and the Furious” series for over a decade. We will also take a look at his watch collection and his highly impressive collection of cars as well.
Who is Ludacris?
Ludacris was born Christopher Brian Bridges in Champaign, Illinois on September 11th, 1977. As a teenager, he would move with his family to the greater Atlanta area, and he would become greatly associated with the city from a professional standpoint in later years. He is notably a cousin of the late comedian Richard Pryor, as well as the singer Monica.
Ludacris wrote his first rap at the age of nine and then would join an amateur rap group at the age of 12. In his early years, he worked as an intern and DJ at Atlanta’s Hot 97.5. Through that job, he would meet the producer Timbaland, who would help him later with his second record.
Ludacris’s Early Show Business Career
Ludacris would independently publish his first album, “Incognegro,” in 1999. Many of those songs would later appear on his major label debut, “Back for the First Time,” which was released during the following year. Songs such as “What’s Your Fantasy” and “Southern Hospitality” would appear on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ludacris has currently recorded nine studio albums, with the most recent release, “Ludaversal,” appearing in 2015. He recorded the soundtrack album for “Karma’s World,” his children’s show on Netflix, which was released in 2021.
“2 Fast 2 Furious” and Acting Career
Ludacris made his film acting debut with a small role in “Wash,” a crime comedy starring Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg, in 2001. However, it was his role as Tej Parker in 2003’s “2 Fast 2 Furious” which would properly see the rapper fully begin a second career as an actor.
Since that initial appearance, he has reprised the part of Tej an additional six times, most recently in the upcoming “Fast X.” He has appeared on a number of television shows as well, including “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,” where his character is related to Ice T’s Sgt. Odafin Tutuola.
Outside of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise, Ludacris’s most recent television project has been “Karma’s World,” an animated children’s show that premiered on Netflix in 2021. It was named after and inspired by his daughter, Karma.
