Rubber B also creates custom rubber watch bands for watches produced by Panerai, Roger Dubuis, and Audemars Piguet. For today’s blog entry, we are going to take a closer look at the life and watch collection of one of Hollywood’s most prolific actors and activists: Mark Ruffalo.
While many may know Mark Ruffalo for his many appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Hulk, he actually had a long and storied career on both the screen and stage long before he ever played a superhero. What many people are unlikely to know about Mr. Ruffalo, though, is that he is also a watch collector and passionate advocate for a variety of environmental causes. In honor of his tireless advocacy and excellent body of work, we thought it would be an excellent idea to take a closer look at the life, work, and watch collection of Mark Ruffalo.
Who is Mark Ruffalo?
Mark Ruffalo was born on November 22, 1967, in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Marie, a hairdresser, and Frank, who had worked as a construction painter. He has two sisters, Tania and Nicole, and a brother, Scott, who passed away in 2008. Ruffalo attended both Catholic and public schools through his formative years, and although he described himself as having a happy childhood, he struggled with both ADHD and ff
Ruffalo would spend his teenage years in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where his father was working at the time. During his high school years, he would compete on the wrestling team and also develop an interest in acting.
Mark Ruffalo’s Early Years in Show Business
Ruffalo would eventually move with his family to Los Angeles, where he would take classes at the Stella Adler Conservatory and also help to co-found a theater, the Orpheus Theater Company. Within his time at the company, in addition to acting in plays, he would also write and direct shows as well.
During this time, Ruffalo would spend almost a decade working as a bartender. Ruffalo has mentioned multiple times in interviews that he estimates having gone on nearly 800 auditions before achieving the mainstream success he now has.
Breakout Success and Future Endeavors
Through a chance meeting with writer and director Kenneth Lonergan, Ruffalo was cast in the original production of “This is Our Youth,” which was one of the most successful Broadway plays of 1996 and would help to bring both Ruffalo and Lonergan to the attention of those in the industry.
However, most mainstream audiences did not truly discover Mark Ruffalo until around 2004. He would appear in three movies that year that were all critically and commercially successful: “Collateral,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” and “13 Going on 30.”
The fact that these were three wildly different kinds of films – a crime drama, an indie comedy/drama with sci-fi elements, and a rom-com – and that Ruffalo was equally at home in all three of them proved his undeniable versatility and magnetism as a performer.
Another two standout roles came in 2008, where he would appear in the thriller “Blindness” as the Doctor and as charming conman Stephen Bloom in The Brothers Bloom, which would mark his first time working with director Rian Johnson.
Thus, when it came time to recast the part of the Hulk after Edward Norton and Marvel parted ways before the filming of “The Avengers,” it only made sense to cast an actor with Ruffalo’s talent and appeal. He most recently appeared as the Hulk in a brief mid-credits scene in the recent Marvel release “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”
Ruffalo has two major upcoming films that he is involved with, with the first, a science fiction film entitled “The Adam Project” where he co-stars with Ryan Reynolds, to be released later in 2022. The second one, which is an adaptation of the novel “Poor Things” by Alasdair Gray that will be directed by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, is currently in pre-production.
What Kind of Watches Does Mark Ruffalo Have in His Collection?
Mark Ruffalo owns a number of different luxury timepieces, including a Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Dual Time. He also collaborated with Frederique Constant in 2018, as they auctioned off a watch to benefit his charity The Solutions Project, an organization he runs that focuses on getting the world to run on renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels, a cause that is near and dear to his heart.
