Panerai submersible watches have been the pride of the Italian navy for over 100 years. Panerai has the most in depth selection of diver timepieces of almost any fine watchmaker in the world. These new Panerai submersible watches are worth looking at.
Panerai Submersible Watches
Panerai recently launched the new Submersible Verde Militare – 42 mm stainless steel reference PAM01055 with a limited run of 500 pieces. This timepiece is exclusively sold on the website and it is the first diver to have both a green dial and a green band.
This watch is able to face the most challenging diving requirements while adopting the military green – paying homage to Panerai’s long military history. This 42mm timepice is made of brushed AISI 316L stainless steel, It has a screw back case and a unidirectional rotating bezel. It is now-famous locking mechanism protects the crown from both physical and water damage.
The Panerai Submersible watch – the Verde Militare – 42 mm (PAM01055) is fitted with the latest P.900 automatic mechanical calibre made with 23 jewels. This automatic movement combine a Panerai minimum power reserve of three days. It supports a waterproofness depth of 1000 feet and besides the rubber strap, also offers a water-resistant second strap made of water resistant textile material with a velcro closure and titanium loop.
The hour markers and hands are made with a light green lume which is highly visible in the dark or when diving to extreme depths. However, Panerai has improved visibility by adding a blue lume dot on the case at the 12 o’clock position and painted the minute hand with blue lume to distinguish it from the hour markers. This subtle distinction improved dive visibility by distinguishing the all-important minute hand from the other hands or lume throughout the watch.
It is hard to mistake that this is a unique Panerai. And with the military look out of the gate and a reasonable price of $8,700, it will not disappoint.
The Mike Horn collection of Panerai timepieces pays homage to what Panerai considers the “greatest living explorer.” He tested the limits of his physical abilities with trips to the North Pole and climbing to peaks at 8,000 meters without oxygen.
The Submersible Ecopangea Tourbillon GMT reference PAM01108 is a substantial 50mm GMT timepiece with skeleton dial. The beauty of this timepiece is stellar. It has the standard functions of hours, minutes, and small seconds. But it also has a very useful GMT function with a 24 hour hand, and a 6-day power reserve indicator. It has a tourbillon escapement to increase accuracy and an AM/PM indicator.
The Panerai submersible watch PAM01108 is powered by a P.2005/T caliber hand wound skeleton movement with 31 jewels and 277 components. I thas a Glucydur balance, and Incabloc anti-shock device and has a power reserve of 6 days. It has a 1000 foot water resistance and a see through sapphire crystal on both the front and the back.
This is a very rare timepiece with only 5 produced. But at a price of $189,000, this will be a truly one-of-a-kind investment.
The Panerai Submersible Bronzo PAM00968 is a stunning timepiece. It has all the features of a typical diver’s watch from Panerai. It has the locking protector for the winding crown, the excellent green luminescence in the dark for all the hands including the small seconds and hour markers. It has an additional bezel lume at the 12 o’clock position which is largely associated with Panerai.
The 968 also has a 47 mm Bronze case. This is stunning because it has an old world appeal to it. It is quite stunning and combined with the enhanced hour markers with a material that already has an aged look but matures with the passage of time, the patina will continue to inspire and create awe among collectors.
It is powered by a P.9010 calibre created by the in-house Panerai team. It has a 3 day power reserve and is built with 31 jewels, a Glucydur balance and an Incabloc anti-shock device. Waterproof to 1000 feet, this is built for diving, save the calf Pointe Vecchio Dark brown strap. It is highly recommended to replace the strap before taking this timepiece into the water. The timepiece comes in at a reasonable $16,500 making this in line with a modern Rolex Submariner. However, because it already has the aged look, it is actually a bargain compared to a vintage Sub which has that highly sought after patina.
The Panerai Submersible Carbotech reference PAM00960 is a modern timepiece with a more military and industrial appeal to it. It has a heavier pricetag than the Verde, and slightly more than the Bronzo, at $17,400 but it provides a different look than what you could find at Rolex.
The look is stunning with its blue tipped hands, hour markers and on the bezel 12 o’clock position. However at night the blue luminescence is accompanied by green lume for the minute hand and the 12 o’clock position bezel lume. This adds to the legibility in the darkness and when diving.
The Panerai Carbotech comes with a rubberized Caoutchouc black strap for its 42mm case. It is powered by automatic P.900 calibre which has a 3 day power reserve. It also has the Incabloc anti-shock device and 23 jewels. This is a definite head turner for a watch, but could be greatly enhanced with a blue or even a white rubber strap.
The Carbotech has an interesting aesthetic which a modern warrior will appreciate. However Carbotech is also made to be stronger and more durable than other materials like plain steel, gold, or even bronze. It is made from thin sheets of carbon fibres, compressed with high pressure and bound with Polyether Ether Ketone – a high end polymer that enhances the strength and durability of this timepiece. It appears to have layers like a highly forged samurai sword.
Whether you own one of these Panerai submersible watches or one of the the other lovely Panerai timepieces, Rubber B has 4 lines of bands that fit nearly all Panerai watches.
The Solid Series is the Rubber B patented “Blocked Integration” series which has a tight fitting band to the Panerai case. Rubber B has 6 luxury colors to choose from in this series.
The Swimskin Alligator series pictured above has the look and feel of real genuine alligator hide, but is actually 100% rubber, making it waterproof for all aquatic activities. Swimskin Alligator comes in both expresso and jet black.
The Swimskin Ballistic series has a Kevlar look to it, but is also 100% pure vulcanized rubber. It has the toughness and texture you would expect a rubber band to have, while maintaining a comfortable fit. Rubber B offers both a military green and a jet-black option in Ballistic.
The Vulchromantic Series is similar in design to the Solid Series. It, too, employs the “Blocked Integration” of the Solid series, but adds a complimentary stripe down the side, also in pure rubber.
Rubber B manufactures all of its bands in Switzerland with the highest specifications, made with no coatings, blends or bonding. Although these bands come with a 316L Stainless Steel Tang Buckle, the original Panerai tang Buckle fits perfectly onto these straps.
