The Panerai Luminor Marina PAM00104 was originally crafted for the Italian navy in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic Acciaio PAM 104 remains steadfast to the essence of Panerai, harmoniously bridging a horological gap between history and the twenty-first-century.
Panerai Luminor Marina PAM00104
The 44mm Panerai Luminor (PAM104) shown in the photo above is a throwback to the wristwatches Panerai made for the Italian navy in the 1940s and 1950s. Equipped with a Panerai OP III caliber, this automatic watch shows the seconds on a sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position and the date at the 3 o’clock position. It comes in stainless steel with a black alligator strap.
The OP III is built from the ETA 7750 base. It contains 21 jewels and beats at a frequency of 28800. It has a 42 hour power reserve. It has a Panerai personalized oscillating weight, a Glucydur® balance, and an Incabloc® anti-shock device. It has Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges and is tested and certified by C.O.S.C.
The Panerai PAM00104 is a stunning masterpiece. It has a solid weight and feel that is larger than most timepieces. However, it has a great balance and feels excellent on the wrist. It has a larger feel because of the locking mechanism, so it feels bigger than the 44mm. The timepiece is excellent to wear daily no matter whether you have an active lifestyle or if you are dressing to perfection with a suit.
One of the great features of the Panerai is that it can be easily dressed up or down with a different band and color scheme. The bar can be easily removed, and there are plenty of band options to choose from.
Equipped with corrosion resistant and hypoallergentic stainless steel, the Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic Acciaio PAM 104 is water resistant up to 30 bar. The timepiece has excellent lumination in the dark since it was made for Italian Navy Seals which operate in the dark or under water.
The Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic Acciaio PAM 104 is available in stainless steel, with a black alligator watch band among other watch strap color options. Although it isn’t available on the Panerai site, there is a similar timepiece with nearly identical features here.
The timepiece sold for about $7000 and still can be found on the market for under that today. Panerai watches have taken a bit of a hit in the resale market, but generally hold their value.
Rubber B has developed a tremendous amount of bands for the Panerai Luminor lineup. One of the great things about Panerai timepieces is that you can dress up the watch with a band or dress it down with another color band. The black dial and stainless steel case can match well with many color bands.
Rubber B offers 6 color bands that have the “Blocked Engineering” features built in. It also has a 100% Rubber – band that looks like real Alligator Leather in both Black and Brown. It also has the 2-tone Vulchromatic series which features two colors. And it has the Ballistic series which is a pattern that looks like real canvas but is actually pure rubber. All bands are made in Switzerland with the highest standards possible.
We recommend that you switch the leather strap for something different and durable for the strong Panerai design. Especially if you want to do water sports or take this timepiece diving, you should have a band that can keep up with the demands. Visit our Panerai watchband page for the 44mm 1950 timepieces here.
