“From its earliest days, when our founder Antoine Norbert de Patek made his first journey to America in the 1850’s until today, the importance of America to Patek Philippe can be seen through our history exhibited in the Grand Exhibition in New York,” says Patek Philippe President Thierry Stern of The Art of Watches exhibition to be held at Cipriani in New York City this summer.
This event will be free to the public, taking place over ten days with guided tours available. Ten rooms in a 13,218 square foot space will showcase watches dating back to 1530, the current collection, movements and films exploring the history of the oldest privately-owned family watchmaker based in Geneva. Live artisans will be demonstrating watchmaking techniques in the Rare Handcrafts Gallery while master watchmakers allow visitors to explore the inner-workings of Patek Philippe movements in The Watchmaker’s Room.
Larry Pettinelli, President of Patek Philippe US, shares “We are tremendously proud to have been allowed this rare opportunity to educate the public not only about Patek Philippe, but also the historical significance of timekeeping through the ages.” The watchmaker hopes that the event will make visitors feel the same way they would if walking through the company’s manufacture in Geneva. At the conclusion of the tour, visitors are welcomed to relax in the Patek Philippe Café.
Taking place between the 13th and 23rd of July, this event will capitalize off of the high concentration of tourists that visit New York City in the summer. With the two-story exhibition open to the public, the watchmaker is allowing new generations to experience the art of watchmaking up-close. It is also a wonderful opportunity them to see the current collection first-hand and understand the historical context of each piece.
