The New Panerai 510 is a stunning timepiece not only because of the extensive history of Panerai watches and its connection to the Italian Navy. It also isn’t because of the simple beauty of this timepiece which is both a dive watch and a powerful timepiece with its crown locking mechanism.
The new Panerai 510 is quite simply the perfect timepiece. It is hand crafted with a black dial and perfectly luminescent hour markers. The hour and minute hands are centrally located. However, the small seconds indicator at 9 o’clock is an unmistakable element that are found on many of the Officine Panerai’s watches including the Luminor Marina.
The luminescence of this timepiece is stellar giving the timepiece great visibility both in daytime and night time. The 44 mm case made from AISI 316L polished steel gives the timepiece even more real estate to view the stellar elements – making everything ultimately visible. The green lume can be viewed both in normal darkness or in the depths of the ocean.
The New Panerai 510
Panerai equiped the Luminor Marina reference 510 with a hand wound mechanical P.5000 caliber. The hand wound feature is both historically important and allows the timepiece to achieve a full 8 days of power reserve. It is fitted with 15.5 lignes, 21 jewels and has a Glucydur balance and an Incabloc Parachoc anti-shock device to keep it functioning perfectly even when it is being banged around.
The new Panerai 510 beats at 21,600 alternations per hour. the P.5000 is made from 146 custom designed components. The beauty of this timepiece can be viewed from both the front and the back of the case. The see through sapphire crystal protects the timepiece from both sides. 
Beautiful Elements of the New Panerai 510
The dial is pure black and it nicely matches the black Calf Rugby leather band with beige stitching that the timepiece comes with. The small seconds and the large Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 12 o’clock are visible beautifully on this large timepiece.
The bezel is polished giving the timepiece even more visibility and legibility. The winding crown is protected by the famous Panerai locking crown.
One of the fantastic features of this timepiece is that it gives the diver nearly 1000 feet of waterproof protection, but the timepiece won’t break the bank either. At a price of $6,600, this is one of the lowest price diver timepieces, if you compare it against a Rolex Submariner.
In fact, it comes out at about half the price of a new Submariner, yet, the Panerai and Rolex history of designing the ultimate diver timepiece is linked in history. It is well understood that Rolex not only manufactured Panerai cases back in the 1940’s, but the two companies collaborated for many years. Interestingly, the new Panerai 510 has a very similar case to the Rolex Oyster. If it wasn’t for the locking nut, it could easily be mistaken for the Rolex.
However Panerai has made some unique changes that would never be seen in a Rolex. Instead of having the dive markings around the bezel as you would find in a Submariner, the Panerai, has a simple polished steel, or in the below example – pure gold.
