A pre-eminent creator of custom rubber watch straps, Rubber B has spent the last several years crafting watch straps for watches for some of the most highly respected watchmakers in both Europe and North America, including Rolex, Tudor, and Apple. These types of watches are often favored by celebrities, such as the subject of this blog post, James Marsden.
Since beginning his career on television in the mid 1990’s, Marsden has been a fixture on both film screens and television sets across the country, as he’s appeared in a wide variety of projects, from comedies to thrillers, that demonstrate his versatility and charm. In honor of the actor and singer’s career, we are going to look more closely at both his life, and his watch collection.
Who is James Marsden?
James Marsden was born on September 18, 1973, in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Kathleen and James Luther Marsden. As a young man, he would go on to attend college at Oklahoma State University, where he majored in broadcast journalism, but he would leave after only a year and a half of study to head to Los Angeles in order to pursue his acting career.
Marsden’s first credited acting role came in 1993, when he played the part of Steven Willis in the made-for-TV movie In the Line of Duty: Ambush in Waco. He would spend the next couple of years alternating between bit parts in various films and television shows, including The Nanny and Saved By the Bell: The New Class.
After spending the better part of a decade in these kinds of parts, Marsden would appear in his breakout role in the year 2000, when he appeared as Scott Summers, better known as the formidable Cyclops, in the X-Men film series.
A Breakout Role and Further Hollywood Success
After appearing in that film, Marsden suddenly saw his career quickly move onto the next level, and it was not long before he was appearing alongside the likes of Ben Stiller in Zoolander and Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in The Notebook, among other notable film entries. He would also go on to appear in both Superman Returns and Sex Drive, the latter of which saw him earning high praise for his performance as the main character’s obnoxious, pugilistic older brother.
One of his most notable moments on television came in 2012, where he would play the part of Criss Chros, the boyfriend, and eventual husband, of the perpetually beleaguered television writer Liz Lemon from 30 Rock.
In more recent years, viewers are likely to know him as the friendly sheriff (and human protagonist) in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, the second of which is slated to be released in 2022.
In his personal life, Marsden was previously married to Mary Elizabeth “Lisa” Linde, daughter of legendary Nashville singer/songwriter Dennis Linde. They share a son, born in 2001, and a daughter, born in 2005, and divorced in 2011, citing irreconcilable differences.
He has another son, born in 2012, with his former girlfriend, Rose Costa.
What Kind of Timepieces Does James Marsden Own?
While Marsden is not known for being overly flashy or opulent in his public appearances, he has quietly built up a rather interesting watch collection over his long and storied acting career.
He is most often seen photographed wearing IWC timepieces, as he has been a longtime ambassador and devotee of the esteemed watchmaker. He owns several of their timepieces, including a Portofino, a Portuguese, a Pilot, and an Ingenieur. However, his personal favorite seems to be the 8 Days Power Reserve, which allows the wearer to see the remaining power reserve on the dial of the watch.
However, he does not exclusively wear IWC watches. When he was photographed for a GQ cover shoot several years ago, he was seen prominently sporting a lovely Rolex Cellini Date on his wrist. He is also the proud owner of an Omega Speedmaster as well, which seems very befitting of his personal style – classy enough to stand out, but not so flashy that it appears gauche.
