Founded by Hans Wilsdorf in 1946 as a sister company to Rolex, Tudor Watch Company offers modestly priced mechanical watches that incorporate the technical advances of Rolex watches with a more colorful aesthetic. The photo above shows their popular Tudor Heritage Black Bay model (Reference: 79230N) with a black bezel. It is also available with a burgundy or blue aluminum bezel with an additional fabric strap.
This stainless steel dive watch features a 41 mm case size and is fitted with a MT5602 self-winding mechanical movement by Manufacture Tudor. It has a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and depth rating of 200 meters. The bracelet it comes with is a steel “Rivet” bracelet or an aged leather strap with a folding buckle and safety clasp. The screw-down winding crown is engraved with the Tudor rose and black lacquered.
At a glance, this timepiece can easily be confused for the Rolex Submariner no date model, however there are some differences in the models. The Black Bay features a snowflake hour hand that is characteristic of Tudor watches. It also has colorful details like the red triangle on the bezel and the orange minute scale that set it apart from Rolex models. The advantage of having a sister company is that Rolex is able to offer variation in their aesthetic without watering down their high end brand. While Tudor watches still use the Oyster case and other Rolex-specific parts, they stand out due to their coloring and available options.
Other popular Tudor models include the Black Bay Bronze, Black Bay Dark and the Pelagos. Visit tudorwatch.com to browse their entire collection of Swiss made mechanical watches.
