Watches and Wonders Geneva is the newish name given for the long running show – formerly known as the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie – aka SIHH. The name Watches and Wonders Geneva was renamed in 2019. Every year the finest watchmakers release their collection for the year. For the longest time the event where the brands would announce their new collections was Baselworld. However, Rolex and several other brands pulled out of Baselworld for various reasons, and now the Watches and Wonders Geneva is the go-to event of the year.
Collectors of watches and the horological industry as a whole prepare the entire year to make an amazing splash with their newest announcements and latest creations. Certainly, the Covid 19 pandemic has made shows much more difficult to have in public. Watches and Wonders took the opportunity to adapt to an online format which became extremely successful. This year should be no exception especially since it is to adopt the hybrid approach which combines both online and in person events.

The New Hybrid Concept for the 2022 Show
The last two years have been entirely online due to the global pandemic. However, Watches and Wonders Geneva organizers have always intended the event to take place in person when conditions permitted it. People have been looking forward to the in person show since before the pandemic and since the Watches and Wonders Geneva event became the go-to event of the year.
In order to be fully flexible in case of another strain of virus is announced, this year the event will have both an online version and an in-person version at Geneva’s Palexpo convention center.
This year should be a truly amazing event. We know that there will be several new styles and that the watch market is still red hot. The fuel and energy surrounding this event is heating up and we expect some very spectacular announcements.
We saw last month that Patek Philippe released its honorary piece the Patek Philippe Ref. 5057G-010 to honor the 50th anniversary of Cortina Watches and its Reference 20145M-001 Singapore Domed Clocks.
Audemars Piguet also released its new 50th Anniversary rework of the Royal Oak. The new Royal Oak comes with a 37mm model, as well as new 38mm and 41 mm self-winding chronograph. It also released the new Calibre 7121 on its 39mm Royal Oak “Jumbo” Extra-Thin (Ref. 16202).
Roger Dubuis also released the Excalibur Monobalancier, another exquisite skeleton watch with a 42mm case. This timepiece is made with Mineral Composite Fiber (MCF), engineered from 99.95% silica and made via a Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) process, creating a lighter watch than traditional steel or gold.
