As the leading crafter of custom rubber watch straps, Rubber B continually strives to use our platform to help educate people around the world about the highly interesting world of horology. We take this obligation very seriously and hope to share our passion by using our blog posts to focus on a wide variety of different areas.
These blog posts can include such topics as covering recent and important events in the world of watchmaking, important historical moments throughout horology, and deep dives into the mechanics of how timepieces work and how they are constructed. However, occasionally, some of our posts do venture outside of these categories – we will occasionally venture into the areas of pop culture or fashion as well.
As we are currently very much in the middle of Spring, we thought it would be a great idea to examine some of the more popular watch colors for the season. We will spend a little time talking about a more general overlook of why we chose the colors that we did, and then focus a bit more on individual colors themselves, as well as offering some insights as to watches that they may pair well with.
Why Did Rubber B Choose These Specific Colors for Spring 2021?
We understand that fashion, by its nature, is entirely subjective, so it is important to state up front that these are simply our humble opinions. With that in mind, we did set out with some criteria to help us make our final choices and present an informed style guide to you.
To begin with, we researched what kind of colors were popular in the fashion world at large right now, and how these might correlate with watch straps. Watches are, in a larger sense, accessories, and it was certainly not lost on us that many people like to color coordinate their watches with whatever outfit they might be wearing at the time. Therefore, we wanted to pick colors that would likely reflect similar colors to what our readers would be wearing this spring.
Also, as anyone who has done any kind of design work, interior or otherwise, will tell you, people have an emotional response to colors when they are presented with them. Oftentimes, this is subconscious, and a person is not even aware of the association until they actually take some time to think about it.
When Rubber B sat down and thought about how we really felt about Spring, the two words that immediately came to mind were “growth” and “warmth.” Therefore, we thought it was important that whatever colors we selected managed to evoke a similar association in our reader’s minds. With all of these criteria in mind, we carefully researched and were able to select our final conclusions, which we will now present to you below.
Green – Rolex Submariner
Green was the first color that came to mind for us because it symbolizes the new growth and rebirth that is so often associated with this time of year. As such, it would only make sense, to begin with it on our list.
Rubber B has several excellent green custom rubber watch straps, but one of our personal favorites is the Glidelock band for the Rolex Submariner. Our elegant Pine Green strap pairs particularly well with any iteration of this long-standing Rolex classic, but if you’re fortunate enough to have one, it looks especially great when it is attached to one of Rolex’s famous “Hulk” Submariner timepieces.
Orange – Rolex Milgauss
There is something hard to explain about the color orange in terms of how it makes you feel, well, warm and safe when you look at it. It’s sunny without quite being fiery, and that perfect balance between the two is why so many people are sporting orange during this time of year. It’s energetic, but not overly loud, and that’s a fairly apropos way to describe spring as well.
Our tangerine orange Rolex Milgauss watch strap is one of our favorite straps that we have ever produced because of how vibrant it is. It pairs perfectly with the sleek and vibrant design of the Rolex Milgauss, especially in terms of how it offsets the dark green band that is featured around the dial.
Blue – Panerai Luminor
There are some people who would say that blue is the warmest color, and while that statement can never truly be verified, we certainly understand why there are people who feel that way. It is a color that a lot of us have had a long relationship with, as for about half of us, it was the color of our first nursery or bedroom.
The deep, hypnotic blue of our Navy Blue Panerai Luminor watch strap would almost make it seem as if the rubber strap came with the watch – honestly, that’s how well the two fit together. We think it’s because the strap manages to evoke the depths of the ocean, and the Luminor is a world-famous dive watch, so it seems like it’s a match made in (our blue) heaven to us.
