Bracelets for the Rolex Submariner
The Rolex Submariner is a stunning example of the peak performance sports timepiece. Designed to be a diver’s watch back in the early 1950’s at the urging of amateur diver and Rolex director, Rene P. Jeanneret, Rolex launched the legendary timepiece in 1953. Soon afterward August and Jacques Piccard achieved a world diving record to an amazing 10,335 feet below the ocean’s surface, with their new experimental Submariner reference 6200 on their wrist. Eventually, the Submariner was making silver screen history being worn by Jacques Cousteau and James Bond’s Sean Connery, catapulting the Sub into the history books as one of the most popular Rolex timepieces in history.
The official launch of the Submariner occurred in 1954 with the reference 6204 and in 1955 with the 6205. The early Submariner touted a triplock waterproofness system that supported depth of 660 feet. The central core of the timepiece’s design is the rotating bezel, which keeps track of air time for divers. Rolex also designed an adjustable clasp that allows divers to wear their timepiece on top of their gloves and wetsuit with a quick adjusting clasp.
Rolex continued to innovate with the Submariner, adding highly luminescent hour markers, a scratchproof sapphire glass, and a cyclops lens to add readability to the date window. Rolex increases the depth rating to support a dive depth of 1000 feet.
The new Rolex Submariner 116610 has a ceramic bezel that rotates in one direction. It is scratch-resistant with numerals and graduations coated in platinum. The 40 mm size of the Submariner case is probably the perfect size for nearly any wrist. It is powered by a caliber 3135 (with a COSC rating) and has a 48-hour power reserve. The Oystersteel case and bracelet, made out of high-performance 904L steel, make the Submariner one of the most durable watches in the market.
