When you are a leader in your field, you have an obligation to continue to move that field forward in ways that are open, transparent, and encourage progress – at least, that’s what we here at Rubber B believe. We have been a leading producer of custom rubber watch straps for several years and are passionate about educating people when it comes to the world of horology.
One of our most prominent platforms for doing so is our blog, a space that we regularly use to produce educational content. This can take the form of articles on important recent developments in the world of horology, important historical events in the world of watchmaking, or articles that focus on the technical standpoints of how a wristwatch works or is made.
For this particular article, we are going to take a closer look at the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36, and more specifically, its colored dials. These colored dials are significant for reasons that we will get into below.
What Do You Need to Know About the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36?
As its name implies, this timepiece measures 36 mm, which makes it a bit smaller than traditional wristwatches currently on the market. It is powered by the 3230 caliber, and just as with all other Rolex timepieces, the caliber is manufactured in-house. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vph and is comprised of 31 jewels, which speaks to the complexity of the movement, as most watches only have 12 jewels.
It has a power reserve of 70 hours and is also a C.O.S.C. certified chronometer as well. It should also be noted that this timepiece is priced at $5,600, making it one of the most affordably priced Rolex watches currently available on the market.
What Types of Colors Are These Dials Available In?
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36 comes in five different colored dials: candy pink, yellow, green, coral red, and turquoise. This is notable because Rolex has not previously offered these particular colored dials for their timepieces, and more importantly, these colors are not really seen on Rolex timepieces at all.
The reason for this is that well, to be honest, these colors are really “fun,” and Rolex, for totally understandable reasons, is known for being a pretty austere brand. As a result, it is certainly a breath of fresh air to see Rolex lightening up a bit and being a bit more playful with the way they approach the design of their dials. It could very well be the beginning of a whole new direction for the company, at least with regard to certain product lines.
What Does This Mean For Future Rolex Timepieces?
While we certainly cannot predict the future, the Rubber B team sincerely hopes that this is the first step towards Rolex having more fun with their designs on a regular basis. Over the last couple of years, Tudor is the brand that seems to have been pushing in a more experimental direction in terms of its aesthetic. We hope to see Rolex follow suit and allow for some fun, fresh changes to the brand.
