For today’s blog entry, we are going to be taking a closer look at the life, career, and watch collection of actor, producer, and climate activist Leonardo DiCaprio. While many people know him from his star-making turn in “Titanic,” what is less commonly discussed is that he actually has a fairly impressive collection of luxury timepieces as well, so in honor of his many achievements, let’s learn more about the noted Oscar winner and climate change advocate.

Who is Leonardo DiCaprio?

Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, to Irmelin, a legal secretary, and George, a writer and publisher of independent comic books. DiCaprio was named Leonardo because his mother felt him kicking while looking at a Leonardo Da Vinci painting in a museum in Florence, Italy.

His parents would separate when he was one, and the family would move into twin cottages with a shared garden in Echo Park. DiCaprio would become close with his stepbrother, who would earn $50,000 for a television commercial, which would partially motivate his choice to go into acting, as his mother struggled financially during their youth.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Early Show Business Career

In 1979, DiCaprio appeared on the television show “Romper Room,” but he was removed from the set for being disruptive. By the time he was 14, he was appearing in commercials for brands such as Mattel and Kraft, and in 1989, he would appear in the role of Glen for two episodes on the television show “The New Lassie.”

DiCaprio struggled to find success in his early years, including securing representation, which is crucial for an actor. When he finally did get an agent, the agent told him to change his name to something more American, such as Lenny Williams, to appeal to American audiences, but he refused.  In 1991, he would make his film debut in “Critters 3,” though he later went on to state that he did not want to make those kinds of films in the future.

Titanic and Mainstream Success

1993 would prove to be a pivotal year for DiCaprio, as he would appear in two of his most important film roles – the first was as young Tobias Wolff in “This Boy’s Life,” a part for which he was hand-picked by Robert DeNiro out of over 400 actors. The second was his role as Arnold Grape in “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” for which he would receive his first Academy Award Nomination, in the category of Best Supporting Actor, at only 19 years old.

1995 would see him teaming with Sam Raimi for the western “The Quick and the Dead,” and in 1996 he would appear opposite Clair Danes in Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo and Juliet,” which has since taken on a considerable cult following. However, in 1997, everything would change for DiCaprio, as he would take on the role that would truly make him an international superstar.

Appearing opposite Kate Winslet in James Cameron’s mega-blockbuster “Titanic,” DiCaprio became, seemingly overnight, an international superstar and a teen heartthrob all at the same time. The resulting success of that would lead to what would be called “Leomania”, and DiCaprio himself later went on to state that “I have no connection with me during that whole Titanic phenomenon and what my face became around the world. I’ll never reach that state of popularity again, and I don’t expect to. It’s not something I’m going to try to achieve either.”

The Post Titanic Years

After working with Martin Scorsese in 2002’s “Gangs of New York,” DiCaprio made a push towards more serious fare and away from the kinds of romantic films he had made earlier in his career, largely as a way to avoid being typecast due to the success of “Titanic.”

This would prove to be a crucially important decision for him, as appearing in that film allowed audiences to see him a new light, and the two would collaborate three more times – in 2004, for “The Aviator,” where DiCaprio would play Howard Hughes,” in 2006 for “The Departed,” and in 2010 for “Shutter Island.” They will be collaborating for a fifth time in 2022, when “Killers of the Flower Moon” is released on Apple TV in November of 2022.

After being nominated multiple times, Leonardo DiCaprio would finally win an Academy Award in 2015 for Best Actor for the film “The Revenant,” where he played the role of fur trapper Hugh Glass.

What Kind of Watches are in Leonardo DiCaprio Watch Collection?

DiCaprio has been photographed wearing a number of luxury timepieces over the years, including a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, a Tag Heuer Carrera, a Tag Heuer Aquaracer, a Jaeger Lecoultre Master Control, a Tag Heuer Professional, and a Breitling Chrono Avenger, among others. He was also seen wearing a Patek Philippe Nautilus with a Tiffany-blue dial in 2021, proving that DiCaprio is something of a connoisseur when it comes to his watches.
