What is Everose Gold - Guide to Rolex Everose Gold

Everose Gold is partly something newly created by its metal foundry, and partly an invention of the Rolex marketing engine. In short, Everose Gold is actually Pink Gold / Red Gold / King Gold / Rose Gold / Magic Gold.

The History of Everose Gold

Rolex didn’t invent Pink Gold. In fact, it was first used in the early 19th century Russia by famed jeweler Carl Faberge in his infamous Faberge Eggs. For a time, it was referred to as Russian Gold.

Cartier brought Rose Gold to the forefront in the 1900’s, and it has seen various degrees of popularity over the years. The color tends to be considered more romantic and feminine than its yellow or white gold counterparts. However, men, including great artist Jean Cocteau wore pink gold themselves and it isn’t uncommon to see it worn by the likes of famous male athletes or actors.

Rolex didn’t utilize pink gold in its production of timepieces until 2005. Rolex Everose Gold is a proprietary 18-karat pink gold alloy that mixes pure gold, copper, and a trace of platinum to create unique Everose Gold.

This metal, according to Rolex, will never lose its red hue. The platinum is responsible for the color’s preservation and the copper adds to its lustrous pink hue. Without the platinum the copper color would eventually fade.

The Rolex marketing machine went to work and coined the new alloy “Everose Gold” partly to emblemize the longevity of the new substance, and also to separate it from cheaper forms of pink gold that might be sold elsewhere.

Rolex also wanted to separate Everose gold from the limited notion of the role of pink gold being used only for women. In fact, Rolex had a plan to make Everose gold sex neutral and good for both sexes.

It did this by giving its Everose gold a darker appearance. Then, they started using Everose gold on some of its most masculine timepieces, starting with the time tested and popular Rolex Daytona.

Rolex designers also noted that Everose Gold combines beautifully with black and this adds to the masculine appeal of the more subtle metal. Adding black elements to the bezel, and now with the black Oysterflex rubberized Band, the Everose Gold can flex its strength next to any other metal.

What Makes Up Everose Gold?

Everose gold is 18k gold. It is 75% gold and 25% other elements. It is made up of these three elements:

  • Yellow Gold
  • Copper
  • Platinum

The result is a warm and long-lasting gold alloy that can stand the test of time. According to Rolex, they use 76% gold and about 2% platinum in their foundry to make Everose gold.

It is noteworthy that almost no jeweler uses 24k gold because of the lack of durability. Adding other elements to the gold mixture increases the strength of the metal and provides longer lasting use for the product created with it.

The Everose gold also has a gender-neutral look to it. Rather than being a bright in-your-face yellow gold, it has a more industrial coppery feel to it. It is darker, more demure, and shadowy in comparison. To some, the Everose gold actually is more masculine than the yellow gold option. And yet, the Rolex timepieces with Everose gold have found themselves on the wrist of many top actresses and female athletes as well as their male counterparts.

The Everose gold has also been combined with brown dials and other brown (aka chocolate) elements since it shares a more brownish palette. See the below delightful example of the Everose gold Rolex Daytona with a dark chocolate dial, black Arabic numerals and black dial. It has a black band to tie it together. This timepiece is truly luxurious and kingly. It is like wearing a Faberge Egg on your wrist.
