Who is Roger Federer?
Roger Federer was born on August 8, 1981, in Basel, Switzerland. His father, Robert, is from a prominent Swiss-German family, and his mother, Lynette, is from South Africa. Federer realized from a young age that he had excellent hand-to-eye coordination and played a variety of sports in his youth, including badminton and basketball.
He would, at a young age, develop a passion for tennis and, by his early teens, was starting to gain the interest of coaches.

In 2003, Federer would win his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. The following year, he would become the first person to win three Grand Slam titles in one year since Mats Willander in 1988. While 2004 and 2005 were also excellent seasons for the imposing young player, 2006 would go on to be his best season, statistically speaking.
In 2005, Federer would play his first match against his fiercest rival, Rafael Nadal. While the two were intense competitors on the court and often brought out the best in one another athletically, they have been friends off the court for many years. Their friendship has often been seen as an example of true sportsmanship by many, and fans and the tennis press alike have been ardent supporters of it.
When Federer announced his retirement in 2022, Nadal was one of the first to congratulate him and thank him.

It remains to be seen as to what Federer’s plans are post-retirement from tennis, but he has previously mentioned wanting to spend more time with his family.
