Daniel Craig wearing a Rolex Milgauss
Daniel Craig is often seen wearing a Rolex watch. Here he is seen with a Rolex Milgauss with a white dial on a Rolex oyster bracelet. Craig is a connoisseur of fine timepieces and cars. This is one of the many Rolex pieces he owns. And this is the 2nd Milgauss we have seen him wearing.
Daniel Craig is a now-famous English actor that started with classic dramatic stage work. Although he acted in several films in the 1990’s, he came to most American’s attention when he played the love interest in the action film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – opposite Angelina Jolie. His gritty performance and ruggedly handsome looks turned heads. It led to exceptional roles in The Road to Perdition (2002), Layer Cake, (2004) and the exceptional film Munich (2005).
However, it wasn’t until he was tapped to become the next James Bond – replacing Pierce Brosnan, that he became a household name. The Bond film writers rewrote the role for Craig, focusing on his muscular physique and gritty physicality. Clearly with their help, he adopted the 007 role for himself and quickly become one of the best James Bond actors ever to take on the role. Although Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan were exceptional Bond actors, Craig offered a new sense of realism.
M described him aptly as a “blunt-instrument” and the first Bond Role, Casino Royale proved him as a physical specimen. Although Bond characters had wit and charisma, none to this date have had the muscular strength that might be attributed to actors like Schwarzenegger or Stallone. Craig does not need to trick his opposition in order to defeat them as previous Bond characters would have to do. He could physically stand toe to toe with them and overpower them with superior athleticism and brute strength. Even in Casino Royale, where he is beaten to an inch of his life, his larger than life physical assets make it seem truly believable that he could survive and recover.
With the James Bond fame and 5 high-grossing films (one soon to be released) under his belt, Daniel Craig was catapulted to the A-list status and asked to join two other Book-to-Movie adaptations – The Golden Compass (2007) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011). Craig also married the also-famous A-list actress Rachel Weisz in 2011.
Daniel Craig Wearing a Rolex Milgauss
When you see Daniel Craig wearing a Rolex Milgauss it is easy to wonder why a wealthy A-list actor might be toting around this timepiece – rather than something far more expensive and luxurious. And, not only does Daniel Craig wear the white dial version, but he also has a black dial Rolex Milgauss as well.
Daniel Craig certainly has an extensive Rolex collection which includes both new and vintage Rolex timepieces. But his attraction to the Milgauss is likely to the historical homage of Rolex to meet the demands of engineers and scientists when they designed the first anti-magnetic timepiece in 1956. It can withstand magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss. The name combines the French word “mille” for thousand and the word gauss – shortened to Milgauss.
It is a stunning watch to look at. Although it is clearly a Rolex, it doesn’t have the exact same look that most people identify with Rolex. It has a quirky nature with a bright orange thunderbolt for the seconds hand. The touches of orange throughout – even on the lume – provides a unique look that is clearly different than a gold Rolex Day Date.
Perhaps Craig views himself as unique, quirky and even scientific himself. The Milgauss utilizes a 3131 calibre with a 48 hour power reserve. It has a green sapphire glass which adds to the unique appeal of this timepiece since it creates a green glow around the edge of the bezel. The Orange and Green coloring are definitely a unique blend and compliment each other beautifully.
The timepiece is water resistant to 330 feet and has a 40 mm case. Unlike many Rolex timepieces, the Milgauss does not have date window, so the hour markers have complete symmetry. Even the bezel offers nothing else to distract you when you look at it. The bezel is smooth Oystersteel. There are no guards around the winding crown either. The Milgauss is clearly a beautiful, not-so-blunt “instrument,” that even James Bond can admire both personally and professionally.
