For many audiences, the first time they encountered Adam Driver was in his breakout role as Kylo Ren in 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” However, the highly skilled thespian had been working steadily, albeit quietly, for years before landing that role, turning in impressive performances consistently along the way.

And while many are familiar with his outer space adventures, what most people are less likely to know is that Driver is something of a watch collector when he is off-camera. Below, we will further explore the life, career, and watch collection of Adam Driver.

Who is Adam Driver?

Adam Driver was born Adam Douglas Driver in San Diego, California, on November 19th, 1983. Despite being born in California, both of his parents have roots in the Midwest United States. His father’s family is from Arkansas and his mother’s family is from Indiana. He was raised Baptist and sang in the church choir in his youth.

He showed an interest in acting from a young age and auditioned for Julliard after graduating high school. However, he was not accepted into the program. After September 11th, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he would spend the next three years before being medically discharged.

Adam joined the Marine Corps just months after 9/11 and served for nearly three years.

After completing his military service, he would audition for Julliard a second time, and would subsequently be accepted into the program.

Adam Driver’s Early Show Business Career

Driver would move to New York in the late 2000s and begin appearing in Off-Broadway shows. His first television role was in the series finale of the ABC show “The Unusuals,” and he would make his feature film debut two years later, in 2011, in Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar.”

During the time between acting jobs, he would work as a busboy and waiter to support himself and his wife, Joanne Tucker.

Mainstream Success

In 2012, Driver would begin to experience his first bit of mainstream success with his role on the HBO series “Girls.” His role as Adam Sackler, the main character’s boyfriend, brought him to the attention of critics and audiences, who noted his strong performance in the show.

However, 2015 would prove to be the year that Driver would become a bonafide film star. He would appear in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as Kylo Ren, a Sith Jedi, and son of Han Solo and General Leia Organa. Though the trilogy as a whole remains somewhat contested in terms of quality, his character, and performance, were consistently singled out by audiences as one of the highlights of those films.

Since finishing his time in the Star Wars universe, Driver has been passionate about using his visibility to help more independent films get into production. He has appeared in several prestige dramas, including “BlacKkKlansman,” “The Report,” and “Marriage Story.” He was most recently seen in 2022’s “White Noise,” which saw him reuniting with frequent collaborator Noah Baumbach.

Upcoming Projects

Driver will be appearing in three films over the next two years – “65,” a sci-fi action thriller, “Ferrari,” where he will be playing Enzo Ferrari in the Michael Mann biopic, and “Megalopolis,” which features a return to filmmaking for legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.
