In honor of this talented young man’s meteoric rise to the top of the Hollywood A-list, and in such a short amount of time to boot, let’s celebrate the life, career, and watch collection of Tom Holland.

Who is Tom Holland?

Thomas Stanley Holland was born on June 1st, 1996 in Kingston upon Thames, England to Nicola, a photographer, and Dominic, a comedian and author. He has three younger brothers and has Irish heritage through his paternal grandmother.

He was educated at Donhead, a Catholic preparatory school in Wimbledon, and then followed that up with attendance at Wimbledon College. He was bullied during his teens due to his deep interest and passion for dance. During his late teens, during a temporary hiatus, he attended carpentry school in Cardiff, Wales.

Tom Holland’s Early Years and Beginnings in Show Business

Holland began dancing in the early 2000’s at Nifty Feet Dance School in Wimbledon and appeared with his school in 2006 at the 2006 Richmond Dance Festival, where he was noticed by choreographer Lynne Page. Page was an associate of Peter Darling, who was responsible for choreographing both “Billy Elliot” and “Billy Elliot: The Musical.”

After eight auditions and two additional years of dance training, Holland would make his West End debut in June 2008 in “Billy Elliot: The Musical” as Michael Caffrey, the title character’s best friend. In September of that same year, he would go on to play the lead in the same show, attracting positive reviews for his performance.

He would continue to return to the show in various capacities after leaving it over the next several years, and in 2012, he would formally make his feature film debut with an appearance in “The Impossible,” alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. He would also appear in 2013’s “How I Live Now” with Saoirse Ronan, which was both a critical and commercial success.

Mainstream Success and Future Endeavors

In June 2015, it was announced that Holland would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, wherein he stated that “my life was flipped upside down.” He would first appear as Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War,” and despite not even being in the film for a long amount of time, he immediately became a fan favorite with his performance. Many critics and fans alike felt that he perfectly managed to encapsulate the balance between Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

In 2017, he would appear the film “The Lost City of Z,” along with Charlie Hunnam, which was critically well-received. Later that year, he would also star in his first solo Spider-Man outing, “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” which was a massive success financially and also extremely well-received critically.

He would reprise the role several more times, including the two-part finale for the Avengers films, “Infinity War” and “Endgame.” He would also have two more solo outings “Far From Home” and “No Way Home,” both of which were critically well received and made significant amounts of money at the box office.

Holland has also worked extensively outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. He most recently appeared in “The Devil All The Time,” which was a gothic horror film for Netflix, “Cherry,” a biographical crime drama for Apple TV, and “Chaos Walking,” a sci-fi feature that teamed him up with Daisy Ridley. He will next be seen in this year’s upcoming “Uncharted.”
