The Rolex Datejust 31 ref.178274 is a discontinued watch from the Datejust line, the newer models are references 278274 and 278174. The 178274 version (pre-2020 models) is unique, to say the least. The one we’ll discuss in this blog post is the Datejust 31 with the gray floral pattern dial.
The 178274 Rolex Datejust is typically a ladies watch due to its smaller size. The dial still holds the “sunbursting” feature like other Rolex’s but this is the only line of Rolex that features the floral pattern on the dial. It has no hour markers beside the Arabic numeral in the six o’clock position. It has the Rolex crown logo at the twelve o’clock position and the date window with a cyclops magnifying lens at the three o’clock position. The hands-on the 178274 Rolex Datejust 31mm are made from 18k white gold with no lume on the dial.
Dial
This dial is the most unique, but there are numerous variations for this watch. You can get customizations done with diamond hour markers or index markers. There are Roman numeral options as well as different dial color options like blue, black, and silver-colored dials.
Bezel and Lugs
The bezel on the 178274 Rolex Datejust is a fluted bezel that comes in 18k white gold. The lugs are highly polished from every direction. The crown features the Rolex logo and includes the Rolex double twin lock and waterproof system. The 178274 Datejust is water-resistant of up to 100 meters.
Crown Functions
To work the crown, you first unwind your Rolex Datejust 31 178274 counter-clockwise. Pull the crown out, and wind your watch 15-20 turns to start the watch, if you pull the crown out a second time, you can adjust the date going clockwise. Pull the crown out a third level, and you can adjust the hands bidirectionally; the second hand will be stopped until you push the crown back in. Make sure the crown is secure so your Datejust 31 stays water-resistant.
Bracelet
The 178274 Rolex Datejust 31 typically comes on a Jubilee bracelet but Oyster style bracelets are also offered. Both have high polish down the center with a satin finish on the outer edges. The Jubilee is the original bracelet that comes on this watch, it features the concealed folding down clasp that is only available for older models (pre-2020). If you decide you don’t mind having your clasp visible, the newer model could be an option for you, it features the Oyster style clasp.
Movement
The 178274 Rolex Datejust 31 holds Rolex’s standard movement of 2235 caliber. On the newer (post-2020) models of this watch (with ref. numbers starting with 278) it’s updated to a 2236 movement. The 178274 version has a power reserve of up to 48 hours.
Rolex Datejust 31 Steel and White Gold Rhodium Floral on Jubilee
This Rolex Datejust 178274 will cost you around $7,800 from some retailers. It has an automatic movement, comes on a Jubilee bracelet, and features a unique floral pattern gray dial.
