When we found Nick Jonas Wearing his Rolex Datejust II, we wanted to dig into this famous timepiece that the superstar wanted to show off to the Voice crowd.
The Datejust II has a long tradition as one of the great classics yet modern watches. The Oyster case on which the Datejust is built was invented in 1926. The waterproofness was tested in dramatic fashion with Mercedes Gleitze when she swam the English Channel wearing the Rolex Oyster around her neck for 10 hours in the nearly freezing conditions. The Rolex Oyster case not only kept perfect time, but it proved that the waterproofness of the case has firmly established Rolex as a leader in the new wave of horological accomplishment.
Launched in 2009, the Datejust II presents all the advantages of the Datejust in a more majestic format, along
with technical innovations. The twin lock winding crown developed in 1953 protects the Datejust in 330 feet of water. The cyclops lens gives the Datejust great visibility of the date aperture at the 3 o’clock position.
The Datejust II is powered by an automatic 3136. It is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for
high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. The 3136 features a Parachrom hairspring and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers developed by Rolex, offering greater resistance to shocks and to extreme conditions.
As if not to leave any aspect of this timepiece to chance, Rolex developed the Oyster bracelet in the late 1930s. Made from precise 3 piece interlocking metal joints, the Oyster has become just as widely recognized, duplicated, and utilized on various Rolex timepieces as it has been imitated by others outside the Rolex family. Rolex has made continuous improvements to the Oyster over the years, ensuring that this bracelet will live as long as the Datejust will for generations to come.
Although Nick Jonas seems to be wearing this Rolex Datejust II it is highly likely that he chose this timepiece for its reliability, stunning beauty, and understated elegance. Jonas is known to be a class act all around and not flashy or outrageous. The Rolex Datejust provides him the exceptional features and power that only a Rolex tool can provide.
It sports the new-generation movement developed in-house at Rolex. The caliber 3235 offers superior precision, durability and reliability. The power reserve is a strongly enhanced 70 hours. Water resistance remains at 330 feet, protected by the screw-down twin lock double waterproofness system. The blue Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers provide this new timepiece with anti-magnetic properties, and shock resistance.
