As the leading producer of custom rubber watch straps, Rubber B consistently strives to innovate and improve on our existing product catalog, which features custom rubber watch straps for watches from leading watchmakers around the globe, such as Rolex, Tudor, Panerai, and Audemars Piguet.

Rolex has been, for many decades, one of the most recognizable names in watchmaking in the world. This is due, in no small part, to the numerous technological advancements that they have either outright invented themselves or significantly improved for their own purposes. And while it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of these stunning timepieces, the Rolex deployant clasp has become a trademark of the company over time.

With that in mind, Rubber B has decided to craft an article that briefly explores the different types of Rolex deployant clasp options. For our purposes, there are five primary different styles of clasps, though some of them have further sub-divisions, depending on how technical one wishes to be.

Classic Rolex Deployant Clasp

When one hears someone talking about a “Rolex deployant clasp,” they are almost certainly talking about the first option on this list, which, for our purposes, we will refer to as the Classic Rolex Deployant Clasp. This is the factory default clasp that comes with most Rolex watches, and it has been around, more or less, since the company’s founding.

But why does Rolex default to this style? Primarily, because it is popular with consumers for two reasons. The first is its versatility, as it can be worn with any style of watch and not be out of place. The other is that the design of the classic Rolex deployant clasp allows wearers to quickly and easily make micro-adjustments to the clasp as needed.

Hidden Folding Clasp

In many ways, the hidden folding clasp is very similar to other Rolex deployant clasps, but with one notable exception. In this iteration, as the name implies, the clasp is hidden and not easily visible to the wearer. This is meant to make the watch appear svelter and less bulky to the wearer.

As such, this kind of clasp is most commonly seen on more elegant watches, in particular women’s wristwatches. However, it is not exclusive to that arena, as it appears on one of the more notable men’s wristwatches in Rolex’s catalog – the esteemed Day-Date, which has been the wristwatch of choice for several presidents.

Butterfly Deployant Clasp

The butterfly deployant clasp is so named because, when opening or closing it, the two pieces of metal for the clasp look like the wings of a butterfly. This clasp is not as commonly used on Rolex watches, but it is very interesting from a design standpoint. It essentially occupies a middle ground between the two prior clasps on this list – it is still hidden, but not as bulky as a regular clasp, which is why it is popular on sports watches.

Pin Buckle

At this point in the article, things will begin to become slightly more varied as to what is included on the list. Some will argue that a pin buckle system is not a deployant clasp, and technically speaking, those people would be correct.

However, it is worth noting that several watchmakers combine a pin buckle system with a deployant clasp, so in the interest of education, we have decided to include it on this list. The pin buckle system is self-explanatory and works the same way a belt for your pants would.

Sliding Buckle

The sliding buckle is a variant of the pin buckle system wherein the buckle can be slid along the bracelet, allowing the wearer to clamp down at any point they choose. This is essentially a kind of micro-adjustment, and it makes it very easy for the wearer to make the strap more comfortable on their wrist.
