Rolex Milgauss 116400 Resists the Magnetic Field

Initially devised to solve the magnetic affects on watch precision, the Rolex Milgauss  is the first of its kind and has become the watch worn by scientists and engineers since 1956 due to its ability to resist the magnetic field.

Equipped with an innovative magnetic shield that guards its movement against disturbances of up to 1,000 gauss, the Rolex Milgauss 116400 runs on a bidirectional perpetual mechanical self winding movement, has a 40mm case, mono bloc middle case, screw down case back and winding crown, sapphire crystal glass, and center hour, minutes, and lightening bolt seconds hands for precise time setting. Waterproof up to 100 meters, the Milgauss 116400 has a screw down twin lock waterproofness system.

Additionally the Rolex Milgauss watch strap is a Rolex Oyster Bracelet, and has a special folding clasp easy-link extension design integrated in the watch band.

Although the Black Dial Rolex Milgauss 116400 has been discontinued and replaced with the 116400GV model, the White Dial Rolex Milgauss is still in production.

The magnetic field resistant Rolex Milgauss 116400V is powered by an automatic 3131 movement and has a green sapphire crystal.  The green coloring of the crystal can be seen on the edges of the crystal as it connects to the polished steel bezel.

The 3131 is  a perpetual self-winding movement with a 48 hour power reserve.  It has a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring oscillator at its core – providing excellent resistance to magnetic interference.  

The coloring of the Milgauss is unique among Rolex timepieces.  The black dial is adorned with hour markers – mostly white except for the orange markers at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.  The seconds notation is marked around the edge of the dial in orange. 

The hour and minute hands are a unique extension of the luminescent hour markers – utilizing a similar rectangular shape as opposed to the typical sword shape of most Rolex hour and minute hands.  Even more surprising is the orange lightning bolt for the seconds hand. 

Combined with the complimentary green glow of the Glace Verte sapphire crystal the orange-green combination provides a unique and sporty look.
