In today’s blog entry, we will be learning more about the watch collection of one of the world’s most popular actors – Chris Hemsworth.
While Hemsworth came to international prominence, and is best known, for playing Thor, what he is less well-known for is being a keen watch collector as well. In honor of this beloved star of both the large and small screen, let’s take a closer look at the life, and watch collection, of Chris Hemsworth.
Who is Chris Hemsworth?
Christopher Hemsworth was on August 11, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia to Leonie, an English teacher, and Craig, a social-services counselor. He has an older brother, Luke, and a younger brother, Liam, both of whom are also actors. His childhood was spent alternating between Melbourne and the Outback, and he has stated that “My earliest memories were on the cattle stations up in the Outback, and then we moved back to Melbourne and then back out there and then back again. Certainly most of my childhood was in Melbourne but probably my most vivid memories were up there [in Bulman] with crocodiles and buffalo. Very different walks of life.”
He would go on to attend high school at Heathmont College before his family would once again move, this time to Philip Island.
Chris Hemsworth’s Early Years in Show Business
Despite the fact that he is known as an international film star now, Hemsworth actually did not break into the industry via film at all. He initially made a few small appearances on several Australian television shows, including “Guinevere Jones,” “Neighbours,” “Marshall Law,” and “The Saddle Club.”
These small parts would earn him the opportunity to audition for an open part on the Australian soap opera “Home and Away,” which is one of the most popular television programs in Australia. Though he did not get the part that he was initially trying out for, he was called back and given the part of Kim Hyde, which would end up being his breakout role in his native country.
He would appear on 171 episodes of the show and leave after three years with the series, during which time his visibility in Australia would increase significantly. In 2006, Hemsworth was a contestant on the fifth season of “Dancing with the Stars Australia,” where he was paired with professional dancer Abbey Ross and eliminated after six weeks.
Ironically enough, that tiny television appearance would almost significantly derail his career, as the producers at Marvel would later go on to admit that they almost passed on offering him the role of Thor because of his appearance on the program, fearing that fans might find it too off-putting.
In 2009, Hemsworth would have a small but memorable role as George Kirk, father of James Kirk, in J.J. Abrams’s “Star Trek” reboot. While he would only appear in the first few minutes of the film, the sequence was memorable, and it brought him to the attention of both audiences and industry veterans alike.
Breakout Success and Future Endeavors
In 2011, Hemsworth would star as the titular character in “Thor,” which would bring him international fame and critical plaudits on a scale which he had not received previously. “The Cabin in the Woods,” which was actually shot shortly after the completion of “Star Trek,” but not released until after “Thor,” benefited significantly from having Hemsworth in the cast and would help to further cement him as a certifiable movie star.
He notably appeared in the 2016 “Ghostbusters” spin-off film, and while the film was not received well as a whole, he was considered to be one of the few bright spots within it.
One of Hemsworth’s most significant projects outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was his appearance in the 2020 action film Extraction, which saw him reteam with Joe and Anthony Russo, who have directed many films for Marvel Studios. The film was one of the most popular films of 2020 and was watched by over 90 million households in just the first month of its release, eclipsing the previous record, which was held by Sandra Bullock’s “Bird Box.”
Hemsworth has reprised the role of Thor in a number of films over the years, and is set to do so again in next year’s “Thor: Love and Thunder.” He will also co-star in the Mad Max spin-off “Furiosa” and is slated to appear in Extraction 2 for Netflix as well, reprising his role of extraction specialist Tyler Rake.
What Kind of Watches Does Chris Hemsworth Have in His Collection?
Chris Hemsworth has, over the years, amassed a rather interesting collection of luxury timepieces that match his unique and elegant sense of style. He does not seem to have a particular preoccupation with a specific brand, as he has been sporting an Omega Speedmaster, an IWC Pilot, a TAG Heuer Monaco, a TAG Heuer Carrera, and a TAG Heuer Carrera Caliber Heuer 01, among others.
