In this article, we are going to learn more about the life, and watch collection, of the man behind Captain America himself – Chris Evans.
Though known around the world for portraying the beloved superhero, what is less well-known is that Chris Evans is also something of a watch aficionado as well. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the early life, career, and watch collection of Chris Evans.
Who is Chris Evans?
Christopher Robert Evans was born on June 13th, 1981 in Boston, Massachusetts, though he would grow up in the nearby town of Sudbury. His mother, Lisa, is the artistic director at the Concord Youth Theater and his father, Bob, is a dentist. The two would go on to divorce in 1999.
Evans has two sisters, Carly and Shanna, and a brother, Scott, who is also an actor. As a child, he enjoyed musical theater and attended acting camp, which would later lead to him portraying Randolph MacAfee in a production of the musical Bye Bye Birdie. Before beginning his senior year of high school, Evans would spend that summer in New York City, where he would take classes at the Lee Strasburg Theater and Film Institute. He would go on to successfully graduate early from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School.
Chris Evans’s Early Years in Entertainment
Chris Evans’s first professionally credited acting appearance was in 1997, where he appeared in a short educational film entitled Biodiversity: Wild About Life! Two years later, he would appear as the model for “Tyler” for the Hasbro board game “Mystery Date,” which features Evans speaking into a phone on the special edition of the game’s box.
In 2000, he would make his television film debut in the film The Newcomers, opposite Kate Bosworth, and in 2001, he would star in Not Another Teen Movie, a comedic parody of the myriad of teen dramas that were being released in the late 1990’s. The comedy would prove to be popular with audiences, grossing almost 70 million dollars globally.
Superhero Movies and Mainstream Success
One of the most unique things about Chris Evans is that he is one of the only actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to have played more than one superhero in his career. After starring in several other films in the early 2000’s, he gave what many people believed to be his breakout performance as Johnny Storm, better known as the Human Torch, in “Fantastic Four,” which was released in 2005.
Though the film itself received mixed reviews, most people agreed that Evans was far and away the best part of the film, as he injected humor and charisma into the picture. He would go on to reprise the part again two years later in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”
He would go on to appear in a wide number of films after this, all of which were of varying genres and styles. He would follow up “Silver Surfer” with a voice acting role in “TMNT,” where he would play Casey Jones, one of the turtle’s human allies. That would be followed up with appearances in Danny Boyle’s brilliant but underseen thriller “Sunshine,” the cop thriller “Street Kings,” and the comic book adaptation “The Losers,” among others.
Captain America and Future Endeavors
Evans would go on to play the role of Captain America from 2011-2019, making him one of the most recognizable actors in the world. He would eventually retire from the part in 2019, and as of this point in time, Evans has not expressed any plans with regards to returning to the MCU for any future outings.
However, that does not mean that he has not been keeping busy. In 2022 alone, he has two high-profile projects that will be appearing in theaters. The first of these, “Lightyear,” is an origin story of the astronaut on whom the Buzz Lightyear toy is based. The second, “The Gray Man,” is a spy thriller that reteams Evans with his former Marvel directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, and will see him co-starring alongside Ryan Gosling and Billy Bob Thornton.
What Watches are in Chris Evans’s Watch Collection?
Chris Evans has, over the years, been spotted wearing a number of elegant luxury timepieces. He has entered into a partnership with IWC and become a brand ambassador for them, wearing a number of their watches to various film events and premiers over the last several years.
When he attended the Oscars in 2018, he was seen wearing the IWC Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days. And when he appeared at the “Knives Out” premiere in 2019, he was seen wearing an IWC Portugieser Chronograph with an 18-carat gold case.
However, he does not exclusively wear IWC timepieces. He was also notably a presenter at the 2020 Golden Globes, where he was seen wearing an Omega De Ville Tresor Co-Axial Chronometer while presenting his award onstage.
