The Best shots from the Rolex Golf Series is a compilation of amazing feats of accuracy. As you may know Rolex is an avid sponsor of many Golf tournaments all over the world. Here are a few of the greatest highlights in 2021
Best shots from the Rolex Golf Series
At the BMW PGA Championship, Adam Scott was on his game and dropped a beautiful shot right in the hole from the fairway. He missed the green by coming up just short. But that didn’t stop him from getting this chip shot to fall straight into the hole. He hit a beauty about 10 feet in front of the hole and then it rolled right in. Who needs a putter when you have accuracy like that with an iron?
Rory Mcllroy is one of the top golfers on the tour and he hit a brilliant shot here at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He was 73 yards away and so this is a rather short iron shot to hit the green. However, his first shot brought him into the rough and he wasn’t hitting from the fairway but on the left fringe. He dropped in about 15 feet in front of the flag, and the ball rolled right into the hole.
Sometimes the grass can be your friend. In this next shot we see that Billy Horschel at the abrdn Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick, Scotland hits a beauty from just off of the green. These Scottish greens are peppered with extraordinarily high grass right around the green. This is hard to practice and prepare for. It is tremendously easy to even lose your ball inside this high grass, and it is nearly impossible to hit through it. Yet, Horschel made it look easy with a chip shot that looked as easy as if he was 1 foot away. Yes, he dropped it right on top of the mound and it curved down the slope and went straight into the hole. Brilliant.
If you want our pick for the best shots from the Rolex Golf Series, why not go with a Hole in One. When you give great incentives, the greatest golfers are often up to the challenge. Here we can see the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship had just such an incentive at a par 3 hole. This hole had a “Hole-In-One Award” for dropping the ball from the Tee into the hole in one shot. The golfer who could accomplish this feat with a 177 yard shot would win a brand new BMW M8 automobile.
This beautiful sportscar lists at about $130,000 and has a V8 and can generate 617 horsepower. Alex Levy was up for the challenge. He had a beautiful shot, right in the hole. Excitedly he tossed his club into the air, and jumped with excitement.
At the BMW PGA Championship Lee Westwood chipped out of the rough fringe just off the green right into the hole. This earned him a birdy on the hole. You would think he might be more excited about being one of the best shots from the Rolex Golf Series, but he just took the unlikely good fortune with a calm smile as if it was something he expected to do. Like a “Boss.”
Not all putts are the same. Although the goal is to hit the shot on the green, you really want to be as close to the pin, in order to give yourself an opportunity to drop the ball in the hole within 2 shot attempts. Here, we can see that his is around 50 feet away from the pin. Even the announcer considered this a 3 putt disaster and a likely bogey. However Justin Thomas wasn’t listening. He stunned the abrdn Scottish Open crowd at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick, Scotland with a putt that went the distance and dropped right into the cup. As the saying goes, “It wasn’t a hard putt, just a long putt.”
I love this shot because it shows how focused the best players are. Matt Wallace drops this shot straight into the hole from the fairway, right over the impressive bunker. However, he is focused on his shot and doesn’t even look at the outcome. Even his caddie doesn’t realize they sunk the shot, and he hands him his putter, as if there was something left to do on the next shot.
Ian Poulter decided to lay up and not attempt to hit the ball short and fall right into the creek that was right in front of the green. Normally this means that you don’t have a chance for a birdy. You are playing for the par. However, Poulter hit a beautiful shot over the creek and into the cup.
