Marco Bizzarri was born on August 8th, 1962 in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Not much is known regarding his family or early years. The only seemingly confirmable fact about his parents is that his father was an airline maintenance technician. He is a graduate of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Marco Bizzarri’s Early Business Career
Marco Bizzarri started his business career working for the firm Accenture in 1986. During his time there, he would serve as a consultant. Several years later, in 1993, he would join Mandarina Duck, a financial firm based in Bologna, Italy. He would later go on to be CEO of the group.
Mainstream Success
In 2004, Marco Bizzarri would make his first foray into the fashion world. He became the general manager of the fashion brand Marithé et François Girbaud. At some point after that, he would go on to join the Kering Group as the CEO of its brand division. In 2007, under his leadership, the company would manage to turn a profit for the first time. He would also oversee the opening of a store in Japan in 2008.
By 2009, he would move on to become the CEO and President of Bottega Veneta. He considerably changed the distribution strategy of the company, causing it to focus more on buying and selling in Europe. Because of the economic downturn at that time, the company had a significant amount of financial stress relieved. After the downturn was over, he would help drive growth in Asia and open a flagship store in Milan for the company. In 2012, the company’s sales would reach the $1 billion dollar mark,
During the same year, Bizzarri was made a member of the executive board of Kering. Two years later, he would be named the CEO of their Leather Goods and Couture division, which was new at the time.
In December 2014, Bizzari was named CEO of Gucci, a position that he still occupies today. He is known for his innovative leadership style and his comfort with taking risks. The company is currently enjoying one of its more successful periods in recent memory under his direction.
