With that in mind, Rubber B has some 2023 predictions for what to expect from some of the more well-known brands as we head into a new year of watches. Again, it is worth noting that these are simply 2023 predictions, and these statements do not, in any way, reflect official statements that have been made by the respective companies below.
Rolex Predictions for 2023
Rolex, by its nature, is not a company known for “shaking things up” or radically redesigning a formula that has worked very well for them over the better part of a decade. However, they do have a major anniversary coming up this year, so it is likely that we will see a new commemorative piece released to celebrate it.
1953 would go on to become one of the most significant years in horological history. The reason for this is that it was the year the Rolex Submariner was released. It is not an overstatement to say that this is Rolex’s most recognizable product by a significant margin, and there are some experts who would go so far as to say it is the most well-known watch in the world.
Therefore, it is very likely that we will be seeing some sort of special commemorative 70th anniversary of the Rolex Submariner unveiled within the next couple of months. It remains to be seen how adventurous Rolex will be in terms of the design of the watch.
Rolex also has a material called RLX Titanium, which is a proprietary blend that they developed in-house. However, they have yet to release a watch with a case made from this material. Is that something that they may be considering?
Tudor Predictions for 2023
Tudor had one of its most successful years on record last year, due in no small part to releasing several excellent timepieces in a row, including the Pelagos 39, the Black Bay Pro, and the Ranger. They will likely lean into the success of these watches, continuing to release new iterations that have had small modifications made to them.
It is also the tenth anniversary of Tudor’s re-entry into the U.S. market, at which time they released the Heritage Chrono Blue. It is very possible that the company could release an updated version of this watch to mark this momentous occasion.
Similar to their sister company, it is possible that Tudor might well be experimenting with new material for their watch cases as well. In this instance, it would be a new lightweight carbon material. Tudor tends to take more risks than a lot of the other legacy watchmakers, so it will be interesting to see if they choose to release a piece in this style.
Audemars Piguet Predictions for 2023
Audemars Piguet is an outlier on this list because unlike all of the other brands mentioned here, they have actually released their product lineup for this year already. They have unveiled a surprising amount of new watches for this year, including a Royal Oak Offshore in Black Ceramic, a Royal Oak Selfwinding with a turquoise dial, and a Royal Oak Jumbo with a blue-grained dial that is only available at their boutiques.
They have also released a version of the Code 11.59 watches in steel for the first time, which was something AP aficionados had been wanting the company to do for quite some time.
Omega Predictions for 2023
Omega does not have any significant anniversaries coming up this year, unlike the other watchmakers mentioned above. However, they did have a highly successful year in 2022, owing largely to the release of the Moonswatch, which was a collaboration with sister brand Swatch.
It is highly likely, therefore, that the two brands will team up again to collaborate on another watch of some kind. Each company stands to make a significant amount of money, and generate a lot of press, with the announcement and release of another collaboration.
