Panerai Radiomir 1940 with new updates…

PAM 399

Everyone familiar with OFFICINE PANERAI knows the story about the Radiomir watches that were created in the 1930s, and featured “wire” lugs which were welded to the case. And we also know that sometime in the 1950’s Panerai became known for its Luminor case which carried a massive crown guard that had been designed with the help of Rolex.

Of course, there is an approximate ten year long gap, which has been left out of our usual Panerai history lessons. In 2012 Panerai  introduced their most recent RADIOMIR 1940. This Panerai watch has been built as a tribute to a forgotten decade, and thus features lugs which are attached directly to its case. In unison, all parts of the case have been carved from one single block of metal mass.

The PAM 398 Radiomir 1940 Oro Rosso (shown at left), and it’s sibling in tribute, the PAM 399 Radiomir 1940 (shown above) are limited editions, each with only 100 pieces worldwide. Fifty of each are sold together in a sibling box set, available for purchase exclusively from Panerai Boutiques.

These box sets are very much in demand, and highly sought after by Panerai fans and luxury watch enthusiasts in general, as Panerai watches have broad appeal, historical significance, and are considered a worthy investment attributed to their limits in quantity production.
