With the release of Creed III this year, Michael B. Jordan has effectively cemented himself as one of the world’s biggest movie stars. And while that role has certainly been his most visible thus far, Jordan has actually been acting since the late 1990’s.
In order to celebrate the newest installation in the ongoing Rocky Balboa/Creed series, we are going to learn more about the life and career of Michael B. Jordan. We will also further explore his watch collection, as he has become something of an enthusiastic collector over the last several years.
Who is Michael B. Jordan?
Michael Bakari Jordan was born on February 9, 1987, in Santa Ana, California to Donna and Michael A. Jordan. His family would spend two years in California before relocating to New Jersey. He would go on to attend Newark Arts High School, where he would also play basketball.
Michael B. Jordan’s Early Show Business Career
Jordan’s first on-screen credit came during the first season of “The Sopranos,” in episode seven, which aired in 1999. He would make his film debut two years later, as Jamal, in “Hardball,” which starred Keanu Reeves.
He would continue to alternate between film and television roles over the next several years. He would go on to guest star on several popular television shows, including “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Burn Notice,” and “Friday Night Lights.”
In 2012, he would go on to have his first lead role in a film, as Steve in “Chronicle.” The found footage film was very well received by audiences and brought Jordan his first taste of stardom.
The following year, he would star as Oscar Grant in “Fruitvale Station.” It would be his first time teaming with writer/director/producer Ryan Coogler, who was making his directorial debut. The film was extremely well-received by critics and landed Jordan on many end-year lists of that year’s best performances.
“Creed” and Mainstream Success
In 2015, Jordan achieved international superstardom when he appeared in the film “Creed.” He would star as Adonis Creed, the son of the late boxing legend Apollo Creed from the “Rocky” series. Sylvester Stallone once again appears as Rocky Balboa and offers to train the young man for an upcoming fight after he requests his help.
Audiences responded enthusiastically to both Jordan’s performance and the film overall, and it was both critically and commercially successful. Jordan would not appear on screen again until 2018.
The reason for this was not a hiatus, however. Jordan would appear in both the sequel to “Creed” and “Black Panther” that year. In the latter film, he would star as Killmonger, the primary antagonist and cousin of T’Challa/Black Panther. The film was one of the most successful in Marvel’s theatrical lineup, and he would have a brief cameo in the sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
